Katara Case Jalandhar, May 3 They were caught at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on April 18 along with BJP MP Babubhai Katara, who was allegedly trying to take them to Toronto, Canada, on the passports of his wife and son. Taking suo motu action on the basis of news reports appeared in the media, the passport office had sent them show-cause notices in which they were reportedly asked to explain why their passports should not be impounded for allegedly misusing some one else’s passports to make an attempt to go abroad. Confirming this, Regional Passport Officer Amarjeet Singh told The Tribune: “If one allows others to misuse one’s passport or someone misuses others’ passport, their passports may be impounded under the provisions of the passports Act.’ Since Paramjeet Kaur and Amarjeet Singh are presently in judicial custody, the show-cause notices have been sent at their addresses where the passports were issued some time back. The show-cause notice has been posted to Paramjeet Kaur at her parents’ house in Feroze Sanghowal village under Bholath police station in Kapurthala district, the notice to Amarjeet Singh has been sent to VPO Jalalpur under Tanda police station in Hoshiarpur district. According to sources in the passport office, Paramjeet Kaur was issued passport (A 5780225) on July 15, 1998, and Amarjeet (F 4698666) on September 12, 2005. Paramjeet’s in-laws had allegedly paid Rs 1.1 lakh to agent Joginder Singh of the adjacent Fatehgarh Seikri village as part of the deal amount of Rs 30 lakh, whereas Amarjeet’s father Jaswant Singh, national vice-resident of the SAD youth wing, had reportedly struck a deal for Rs 10 lakh with a neighbouring Salempur village agent Santu. |

for early construction Phagwara, May 3 The shops were creating hurdles in the completion of the bus stand. A demolition squad, headed by the
SDM, axed a big tree just outside the bus stand, while laboureers demolished the six shops with the help of a JCB machine.
Jiwan and Inderjit Kalra, while talking to The Tribune, alleged that they had been tenants of the shops, owned by the nagar council, since 1976, but all of a sudden they were forced by the administration to vacate the shops.
Jiwan and Kalra, alleged that they were facing tough time to earn their livelihood. The shopkeepers were in shock and said though the administration had assured them of allotment of alternative shops near the bus stand, it would take time to construct shops. Meanwhile, a reporter of a vernacular daily sustained deep injuries on his forehead when a bamboo pole fell on him during the demolition drive. He was rushed to hospital where he got three stitches on his forehead. When contacted, SDM Amarjit Paul said he had obeyed the instructions of the minister and now the decks had been cleared for the early completion of the bus stand. Computers gutted at PNB Hoshiarpur, May 3 The spark in the electric wires due to short-circuit is suspected to be the cause of fire. The officials got to know to about the fire from a night watchman when the safety alarm went off at around 9.30 pm. The fire was put out with the help of extinguishers. The SDM, Garhshankar and SHO Mahilpur also reached the spot to assess the situation. The estimated loss is stated to be around Rs 2
