Tale of two tigers

Deadly game: A still from Two Brothers
Deadly game: A still from Two Brothers

It’s a story that will tug at your heart and prove that man’s predatory streak is nothing new and poaching and hunting have been rampant for centuries.

Two Brothers (May 2 at 9 p.m. on HBO) revolves around two tiger siblings, Kumal and Sangha who are separated as cubs and taken into captivity. In the beginning they live and play amongst the ancient temple ruins in a Southeast Asian jungle.

Then comes the well-known explorer, Aidan McRory, who represents all the excesses of British colonialism. He is fond of killing male tigers and organises wild and lavish hunting parties.

However, when McRory sees Kumal something that stops him from putting his finger on the trigger. He takes the cub with him. Sangha, meanwhile, is adopted by another man.

Through a series of events, both Kumal and Sangha are tragically reunited, not as brothers but as enemies, and forced to fight one another for a blood sport where one must kill the other. A heart-wrenching story that makes you reach out to these lovable cats.

Sacred sites

This is a journey into some of the most sacred sites in the world — the Muslim Noble Sanctuary, Judaism’s Western Wall, and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Jerusalem is the most important city for Christians, Jews and Muslims. The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ happened in Jerusalem. For Jews the holiest site is the Western Wall of the Temple Mount, formerly called the Wailing Wall. And for Muslims, Jerusalem is the site of Prophet Muhammad’s ascension to heaven from the Rock. Join three families from three world religions as they make journeys of faith to their holiest places in Inside Jerusalem’s Holiest on April 29 at 8 p.m. on National Geographic Channel. On the way they’ll confront the bitter strife that’s turned this city of peace into a city of weapons and walls. The show takes viewers into legendary and rarely filmed locations, including the Rock inside the Dome of the Rock, the Noble Sanctuaries, Well of Souls, and Solomon’s Stables, used by Christian soldiers during the First Crusade. With vibrant hi-definition footage and commentary by experts, mysterious and fascinating histories of the sacred sites come to life in this stunning documentary.

DIFFERENT ROLE: Amrapali is gung-ho about her new assignment

She is best known as the simple bahu of Teen Bahuraaniyan on Zee—a role that fits her personality like a glove. But make no mistake. Amrapalli Gupta is no behenji and she’s out to prove that in no uncertain terms. The demure daughter-in-law is going to shock viewers as an item girl. No, not in Teen Bahuraaniyan but in a spicy music album appropriately titled Chatni Mix.

`A0"I am really excited about it. People will see a different side of me," says the Lucknow girl who has done lead roles in Reth for Zee TV and Pyaar Ke do Naam, Ek Radha Ek Shyam on Star Plus. Though she says she enjoys portraying a rich, traditional Indian wearing lots of jewellery, bangles and bindis, she would not like to be identified with the same kind of roles. "I’d love to watch people’s reactions when they see the video." — NF
