Crossover hit

They’re a hit in the UK, and now Meera Syal and Sanjeev Bhaskar are getting set to take their act, The Kumars at Number 42, across the ocean to the US.

Producers of the hit BBC chat show, which ended its seven-series run last year, are in talks with US broadcasters to have the comedy remade in the country.

Syal confirmed that she and her hubby were talking to the US broadcasters, but warned that the move depended on the budget. "There’s interest from America and we are discussing it. It’s early stages and so much depends on the budget," the Daily Mail quoted her, as saying. However, while Syal is cautious, she is also excited at the prospect of being able to interview Hollywood celebs like Sylvester Stallone and Nicole Kidman.

"I’d be really interested. Can you imagine, the Kumars interviewing Sylvester Stallone and Nicole Kidman? I think it would be hilarious," she said. What has brightened the show’s prospects of being aired in America is the fact that repeats of it on BBC America have been a huge hit. If the show does manage its US crossover, then The Kumars will be the latest celebs taking America by storm after Ricky Gervais and Sacha Baron Cohen. — ANI
