Cong misleading people on SYL, says Chautala
Tribune News Service

Hisar, March 6
Former Haryana Chief Minister and INLD leader Om Prakash Chautala today lashed out at the Congress regime for allegedly holding up the completion of the
SYL canal.

Addressing a news conference here today,Chautala maintained that the Centre as well as the state government were misleading people of Haryana on the issue. He asserted that no court case in this regard was pending in any court of the country, as was being claimed by the Congress.

"The Supreme Court has given its verdict in favour of the completion of the SYL canal and the responsibility to do so rested with the Centre," Chautala pointed out.

Referring to the recent "Navyug Rally" organised by the state Congress at Sirsa,he remarked the real 'navyug' in Haryana would dawn only after the completion of the SYL canal. The former Chief Minister even offered to support the present state government in any move initiated by it in the larger interest of the state.

On being questioned why his party supported Parkash Singh Badal's Shiromani Akali Dal in the Punjab elections despite their rigid approach over the SYL issue,he said he backed the SAD because of their personal relations.

In response to another query, the former Chief Minister alleged that hundreds of crores of rupees had been squandered on the "navyug rally".

Chautala, who was accompanied by former Haryana finance minister Sampat Singh and other leaders of his party, observed that till now, the Haryana government had proved to be a "regime of announcements".

Levelling serious allegations against Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda,he accused him of indulging in"property dealing" in the name of governance. The INLD chief also welcomed any probe in view of allegations of heinous crimes against him.

Dowry Death
Our Correspondent

Kaithal, March 6
The court of Dr Neelima Shangla, additional district judge, today sentenced four accused, including a woman, to life imprisonment after holding them guilty in a dowry related death case.

The accused will also have to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 each which will be paid to the parents of deceased as compensation. In case the accused failed to pay the fine then they shall undergo imprisonment for an additional period of three years each.

According to facts of the case, Nirmla Devi (deceased) was married to Joginder Singh (accused) resident of Songri. Soon after marriage her husband Joginder, brothers-in-law Krishan and Ramesh Kumar and mother-in-law Rani Devi started demanding TV and some other items from Nirmla which were given by her parents. About one-and-a-half years after marriage the four accused poured kerosene on Nirmla and tried to burn her but she was rescued by her father-in-law and a neighbour. A panchayat settled the matter and the accused promised not to harass Nirmla for more dowry.

But on August 22, 2004 the parents of the deceased came to know that their daughter had been killed. To hush up the case Nirmla’s in laws cremated her body in a clandestine manner and did not allow her parents to get a post mortem examination conducted.

After hearing lengthy arguments by the prosecution and the defence, the court held all four accused guilty and convicted them under Sections 304-B and 34, IPC. The court also convicted them under Section 201, IPC, for destroying evidence and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each. The court also directed that the amount of fine recovered from them should be paid to the parents of the deceased.
