Whether it is truckers’ strike or that of bus transporters, a bandh by the kisan union, or an agitation by the university students, an intelligent political leader is one who jumps into the din and extracts maximum political mileage. To achieve this objective, a politician should always keep his eyes wide open.

When the skeletal remains of some children were found on the premises of Jagmeet Brar’s factory, the Akalis cried themselves hoarse that Jagmeet should be arrested. When the high court indicted Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Congress and Capt Amarinder Singh screamed ‘murderer, murderer’.

According to them Badal is a looter and Sidhu a murderer. What the apex court has to say doesn’t mean anything to them; they have already pronounced the verdict.

If somebody’s house is on fire, a shrewd politician is one who instead of putting the fire out warms his hands over the fire. He demands the setting up of an inquiry committee. Let the endless wait for justice go on till netaji has extracted substantial political gain out of it.

One such politician fell into a deep ditch while campaigning in the elections. He cried out in panic, "Save me. Help! Help! Pull me out". His supporters reassured him, "Sir, please remain in the ditch for sometime. Let the press and the TV channels come. At least let us get some publicity and political mileage out of it". The politician yelled back, "Don’t take any risk. The voters are so annoyed with my non-performance that if they come to know they might just come and cover the hole with mud!"
