AUDIO SCAN
Noteworthy trio
Salaam-E-Ishq (T-Series)

After the super-duper success of Bunty Aur Babli, expectations from Shankar-Eshsaan-Loy have gone sky-high. That can be a big burden because every song cannot be a Kajrare kajrare`85.

They try their best to match the magic of that film here but with only partial success. The album is noteworthy for a different reason. You see, Shankar Mahadevan of the composing trio is a well-known singer too and has been heard fairly often. But this album gives one chance to listen to Loy Mendonsa as well. The song that Shankar and Loy sing along with Shilpa is Saiyaan re`85. And it is a worthwhile number indeed.

Quite understandably, the song on which they have worked the hardest is the title number. This film is a story of six different couples. Small wonder that this song too has been rendered by as many as five playback singers — Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Kunal Ganjawala, Shankar Mahadevan and Sadhna Sargam.

Kailash Kher is generally known for his high-pitched playback. But here he is uncharacteristically subdued in Ya Rabba`85.

Surprise of surprises, this film also presents Babuji dheere chalna`85 from Aar Paar in the voice of Nihira. The tune of O.P. Nayyar has been kept intact. Adnan Sani’s Dil kya kare`85 is haunting. Two duets Mera dil`85 (Shaan and Nihira) and Tainu leke`85 (Mahalaxmi Iyer) are the mainstay of the film.

The lyrics are by Sameer.

Woh Lamhe (T Series)

The opening is grand, what with Kya mujhe pyar hai`85sung feelingly by Kay Kay. But other songs do not keep up the tempo.

In fact, they faintly remind you of tunes from old hits. Music director Pritam should not be doing that so early in his career. One beautiful number, So jaoon main`85 (Kunal Ganjawala), has been composed by Roop Kumar Rathod. Its female version has been rendered by Shreya Ghoshal.

The remix version of Kya mujhe pyar hai`85has been sung by Kay Kay so differently that it seems he is a different singer altogether.

Tu jo nahin`85 (both versions sung by Glenn John) is good, but for the slight lack of originality. The same can also be said about Bin tere`85(Jawad Ahmad) and Chal chale`85 (James). The lyrics are by Neelesh Misra, Sayeed Quadri and Shakeel Aazmi. — ASC
