IIM-A to get accredition from European agency

TO help the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) place itself among the top B-schools in the world, the institute has decided to get accredition from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), a reputed European agency.

The institute has decided to apply for the accredition following the visit of director of EMFD Julio Urgel recently, IIM-A director Bakul Dholakia said.

Dholakia said the accredition will help IIM-A to enhance its global position, it would provide greater market access and it would help the institute to form an alliance with foreign institutes.

He said above all the constant monitoring by the EFMD will teach many things to them as the institute will be benchmarked against others.

"No business school from India is accredited with Equis while, Chinese schools are accredited. This will be a beginning of accredition for Indian business school with EFMD," he added.

Julio Urgel director Equis and quality services of EFMD said their agency was formed by top business school of Europe to give accredation to good management institutes.

They give accredation to top business school of the world. At present, there are 97 business schools in five different continents which have got Equis accredition.

Their accredation process is very rigorous and takes a long time, Urgel added.

MP plans courses in animation, tourism

The Madhya Pradesh government would start professional diploma courses in animation and tourism from next year through the new Department of Sports and Youth Welfare (DSYW) Academy.

The course will be offered in partnership with industry giants, who have assured jobs on their successful completion, state Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Yashodhararaje Scindia said in Bhopal recently.

The DSYW Academy will start two courses each in travel and tourism and 3-D animation from February 2007, she said.

"The courses, for both postgraduates and undergraduates, will be the first of their kind, offering 100 per cent job guarantee to students passing out from the academy. They will be aimed at encouraging regular student-industry interface," she said.

The government has tied up with Kuoni Academy of Travels and Data Quest Entertainment for academic material and trainers, she said.

Both companies have agreed to recruit students who will also get an opportunity to gain a one-year internship with the organisations and receive a monthly stipend of Rs 7,000, Scindia said.

Infrastructure for the academy will be set up at T T Nagar stadium here and applications will be invited from students, who will have to clear aptitude tests to gain admission to the courses. The government will offer scholarships of Rs 1,000 to 25 students in each course, she said. — PTI
