Guru Kay is a pseudonym for Lt Col Manveet Singh. A serving commissioned officer of the Indian Army, he has successfully woven his wide-ranging experience gained through seventeen years of service in diverse parts of the country in this fictional debut.

Dubious Tactics carries a series of ostensible innocuous and minor incidents that convinces Ajit Singh Ahluwalia of Indian Bureau of Counter Terrorism to have a sneaking suspicion of a veiled and a sinister scheme, threatening the security of the country.

He puts himself on the trail to unravel what could be a menacing plot before any mishap occurs.

Noor Kadir, a zealot with his malevolent aim of creating a permanent communal divide in the social fabric of India plans nefarious operations; one being the assassination of the Defence Minister in Kashmir and the other is a jail break in the remote north eastern region of India to get his ally Ansari free.

The narrative runs around how Kadir uses a number of persons to achieve his evil aim: Hiteshwar Das, a sepoy in the Indian army who is court-martialed for assisting him. Later Kadir exploits his expertise in controlled explosion to break the jail ; Simon Judd, a disgruntled army officer who dares to outsmart Kadir by pretending to be with him but foils his bid to assassinate the defence minister.; Jessica and Zailo, a brother and sister duo, who fall for the lure of money; Bhalla, Commandant of Frontier Forces Battalion falls into the sexual snare set by Jessica, following her dictates thus transforming himself into a mere pawn in her hands.

The author leads the reader to clearly see through how the demonic Noor Kadir’s eagle eye detects the weak spots of these characters and exploits them to meet his ends.

The author’s dexterous craftsmanship coalesce the story with a commentary on the sad state of affairs in the country. The author has dexterously woven an intricate plot, full of suspense depicting the very real security threats faced by India. Humour though not altogether absent is scant, blending well with overall atmosphere of the story line. The lucid depiction of Kashmir valley and the north east region of India, loaded with an air of authenticity makes the pulsating prose piece a good read.
