TAINTED persons should not be allowed to contest elections. I think they would be better off working behind the scenes only. Naturally if goondas themselves become ministers, who will serve as the backbone of ministers? Most people talk about tainted ministers, but they have no clue as to what they mean by tainted. In the political arena, even if a person is caught red-handed taking bribe, sexually abusing someone, or inciting riots, he is not necessarily tainted. He would be considered so only if his or her high command thinks so. A tainted person has every right to say, "Yeh opposition ki chaal hai jo mujhe badnaam karna chahti hai!" In an affidavit, the Home Ministry has said that there is no judicially manageable standard for determining who can be treated as an accused or rather a tainted person. Every government is charged with appointing tainted persons as ministers. Even Dr Manmohan Singh, one of the cleanest politicians, has had to induct these tainted politicians because of his coalition government’s political compulsions. I think it is about time that we delete the word ‘tainted’ from our political dictionary. There should be 33 per cent seats reserved for our tainted politicians.
