KU launches new communication courses

In order to cater to some of the emerging manpower requirements in the fields of communication and media, the Institute of Mass Communication and Media Technology, Kurukshetra University, has launched some new courses.

It was felt that traditional course content was not able to cope with the rapid change required in the professional practices in the field of communication, making even qualified students ill-suited for jobs. Hence, four new courses —M.Sc in Mass Communication; BA in Mass Communication; Diploma in Graphics and Animation; and B.Tech in Printing, Graphics and Packaging — have been started.

The M.Sc in Mass Communication course will impart skills, both in writing and the use of equipment, required to work in television, radio, newspapers and magazines, web systems, advertising, public relations and corporate communication, political campaigning and image building.

Video and digital cameras, computers with the latest software and applications, printing machines, audio recording and editing systems, art labs and the latest video editing systems will be provided to help the students learn the latest media technologies.

This course is of two years and has 30 seats. The eligibility is Bachelor’s in any discipline and the fee is Rs 25,000 per annum.

For BA in Mass Communication, candidates who have passed the senior secondary examination are eligible. It has 25 seats and the fee is Rs.25,000 p.a.

The postgraduate Diploma in Graphics and Animation is of one-year duration and there are 25 seats. The eligibility is graduation and the fee is Rs 25,000 p.a.

The B.Tech in Printing, Graphics and Packaging course is a mix of engineering, technology as well as art and craft. It will prepare students to become creative packaging designers and print experts.

Its duration is four years and eligibility is plus two with Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. The course has 30 seats and the fee is Rs 35,000 p.a.—TNS
