Scientific session on TB

Ludhiana, August 6
The District Tuberculosis Control Society Ludhiana held a scientific session on the topic “Sensitisation of Public Private Mix Provider under Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP)” here yesterday. Leading private practitioners and NGOs participated in this session.

This was the first-ever meeting where private doctors were involved in the RNTCP programme. It was organised at the initiative of Dr R. S. Deol, District TB Officer Ludhiana. On this occasion Dr Deol dwelt on the history of tuberculosis and the Revised National TB Control Programme.

Dr Ms Manorma Avasthi, Assistant Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, spoke about the achievements of the RNTCP in Ludhiana. Dr Rajdeep Srivastava of the World Health Organisation (WHO) appealed to all private practitioners to participate in the RNTCP whole-heartedly. Dr S. S. Khajuria also presented his views on the occasion.

Sanatan Vidya Mandir School win by 5 wickets

Thanks to fine contributions by captain, Nakul Sharma ( 3 for 3 runs) and Suraj who scored 50 runs off 35 deliveries, Sanatan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Civil Lines, defeated Rashtirya Bal Vidya Mandir School by five wickets in their first match of the u-19 years of the Punjab Schools Zonal Tournament (PAU Zone) played at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Punjab Agricultural University ground, here today.

Nakul Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. Rashtriya Bal Vidya Mandir School’s essay folded at 94 runs in 18 overs. Mandeep scored with 24 runs while Karan and Rahul chipped in with 10 runs each. For SVM School, Nakul Sharma was the most successful bowler who sent down three overs and grabbed three wickets conceding just six runs. Sahil and Kushagan Kashyap claimed one wicket each.

The target appeared to be a meagre one as SVM School batsmen surpassed the total in 13 overs after losing five wickets. Suraj hammered 50 runs off 35 balls while Kushagan Kashyap and Nakul Sharma contributed 11 and 10 runs, respectively. For the losers, Rahul (2 for 10), Karan (1 for 14) and Vineet (1 for 16) were the main wicket takers.

The second match played between SAN Jain Model Senior Secondary School Circular Road and Government Senior Secondary School, Hambran turned out to be a cliff hanger in which the former romped home victorious by one wicket. The issue was decided on the last ball of the match. Hambran school lads required two runs on the last ball of the encounter with the last pair at the crease but the wicket fell and they lost by a wafer thin margin of one run.

Batting first, SAN Jain Model Senior Secondary School scored 122 runs for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. The main run getters were Ankush (34 n.o), Vineet (20) and Himanshu (15). For Government School, Ravi and Sukhwinder secured two and one wicket each.

In reply, Government Senior Secondary School, Hambran, were all out for 121 runs. Ravi made 29 off 25 balls, followed by Kamaljeet who scored 14 off 11 deliveries. For SAN Jain School, Manik (2 for 19), Yuvraj (1for 9) and Vineet (1 for 24) were the main wicket takers.
