International recognition for Siddhanth
International recognition for Siddhanth

It is great news for BAG Films. Its courtroom drama Siddhanth on Star One has entered the finals of the 34th Emmy Awards in the drama category. This is the first time that any Indian serial has made it to the finals of the Emmy’s.

Siddhanth, the weekly one-hour show, is the story of an advocate whose world revolves around a web of lies, deceit, deaths and downfall, some of which is a result of his own doings of the past. Yet case after case he moves ahead because he has just one motto — to succeed at any cost because for him winning is everything.

Besides hit shows like Haqeeqat, Rihhaee, Aaj Ki Baat, Poll Khol, Sansani and Red Alert, the production house has gone into film-making and its first full length feature film Zindagi Rocks starring Sushmita Sen and Shiney Ahuja is releasing in August.

Oscar winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley is to entertain the Sunday teatime viewers of BBC1 and CBBC by telling them the first story on Jackanory when the series plays its second innings on TV.

In a 45-minute special show, where a celebrity reads a story, enhancing it in ways that will entice the most restless of children, the Gandhi star will narrate the tale of The Magician of Samarkand, a girl’s battle with an evil wizard.

"I am happy to be part of Jackanory. I hope millions of viewers will enjoy this tale," The Mirror quoted Sir Ben, as saying.

Funnyman John Sessions will read Muddle Earth, a tongue-in-cheek homage to Lord of the Rings.

The original series began in 1965 and ended 10 years ago, and its past readers were Judi Dench, Tom Baker and Prince Charles.

The new series, scheduled to start in November, will have animation and live action. — ANI

Maaninee’s name game

Since her role as Pari in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, there’s been no looking back for Manini Mishra nee De. She’s been among the happening couples, along with husband Mihir Mishra, in Nach Baliye, hosts the popular Not Just Cricket and is playing the lead role of a lawyer and single mother in Sab TV’s Twinkle Beauty Parlour.

But the biggest break came with her cameo in Krrish where she plays Priyanka Chopra’s best friend. She has signed Anant Mahadevan’s Aankh Micholi in which she plays a textile engineer in the film. And guess what she has done after her brush with success — gone ahead and changed the spellings of her name to Maaninee Misshra. —NF
