Aayush ton helps St. John’s beat Pak team

Chandigarh, August 1
A fine century in the U-16 age-group by skipper Aayush Raj Soni, ably supported by Neeraj Joshi (58 runs) and Tanveer Manek (49 runs) enabled St. John’s team beat St. Authony’s team, Lahore, by a huge margin of 178 runs in the inaugural match of Indo-Pak friendship Cup, 2006, being held at St. John’s High School, Sector-26, here today.

The St. John’s team amassed 268 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the allotted 250 overs.

In reply, the St. Anthony’s team were bundled out for a partly 90 runs. For the St. Anthony’s team, Abu Baker scored 24 runs and Ahmed Illyas 17 runs. For the St. John’s team Prateek took 3 wickets for 10 runs and Abhishek Verma took 2 wickets for 2 runs.

In the U-13 age group, the St. John’s team batting first amassed 160 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the allotted 15 overs. For the St. John’s team Karan Goyal scored unbeaten 51 runs and Shivam Bhambri scored 52 runs.

In reply, the St. Anthony’s team was bundled out for 67 runs. For the St. John’s team Jayant, Vardaan, Manraj took 2 wickets each whereas the main strike bowler was Prithvi Bhart, who took 3 wickets for 12 runs,

U-16: St. John’s 268 for 4 in 25 overs (Aayush Raj Soni 100, Neeraj Joshi 58, Tanuveer Manek 49, Ahmed Illyas 2 for 30).

St. Anthony’s: 90 all out in 18 overs (Abu Baker 24, Prateek 3 for 10, Abhishek 2 for 2).

U-13: St. John’s: 160 for 2 in 15 overs (Shivam 52 not out, Karan Goyal 51 Not out, Seeshan for 30).

St. Anthony’s: 67 for all out in 15 overs (Qaudus 13, Prithivi 3 for 10, Jayant 2 for 15, Vardaan Arora 2 for 20, Manraj 2 for 15, Aditya Duggal 1 for 10.

Senior Model-37 lifts Subroto trophy

Chandigarh, August 1
Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, lifted the trophy after thrashing St John’s High School, Sector 26, by 7-0 in the finals of Pre-Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament (under 17 Boys) at GMSSS-37 here today.

In the finals of under-14 category, too, St John’s team lost to Government Model High School, Sector 42, by a huge margin of 12-0.

The GMSSS-37 dominated the proceedings from the start as the first goal was netted in the third minute of the game by Maninder, who again struck in the 57th minute. The next goals came through Jaspal (18th min), Pardeep (27th min), Manoj (28th min), Randeep (42nd min) and Rakesh.

In the under 14 category between GMHS-42 and St John’s, the latter seemed helpless as they could not do anything on the field, but conceding 12 goals. Ranjit was the highest scorer, who scored three goals (55th, 57th, and 60th min) followed by two goals each by Sunil (17th min and 51st min) and Rajbir (48th and 65th min). Samule (6th min), Maninder (12th min), Shehraj (15th min), Rajinder (29th min) and Pawan (53rd min) contributed one goal each.

The following have been elected office-bearers of the Defence Services Golf Brotherhood: Chairman — Maj Som Dutt (retd); secretary-general — Col J.S. Kang (retd); executive members: Brig Satjit Singh, Brig Avtar Singh Gill, Col D.S. Aujla, Col B.S. Guraya, Comdr J.S. Brar, Sqn Ldr Gurdial Singh and Col G.S. Sidhu.

The body holds golf tournaments for defence personnel on a regular basis.
