TELEVISION
Beyond news

Over the past few years, news is not just a global affair but is turning into a mega business. Channels have been vying with each other to provide groundbreaking stories "on the hour, every hour", as BBC World puts it.

Ratings show that news is emerging as the popular viewing choice of people. Thus, in a bid to rise above the clutter, it is becoming vital for channels to innovate and introduce imaginative programming.

Star News is all set to consolidate its base with the launch of new programming. The first is Apna Khayal Rakhiyega, a new weekend news show that will address a holistic view on health updating viewers with the latest in the world of health-breakthroughs, medicines, food and fitness trends.

Another programme to follow is Top Speed, a complete handbook for automobile fans and the layman alike that offers a weekly dose of wheels, speed and panache.

Though CNN and BBC may have been airing such shows for years, it is only now that the Indian news channels are rushing to give a new flavour to news. — NF
