Mandi Ahmedgarh, July 12
A special committee, constituted by DC, Sangrur, to probe the cause of death of two women whose kin had accused a private doctor of Malerkotla for showing negligence in performing an operation on them has completed the inquiry.

According to Mr S.R. Ladhar, Deputy Commissioner, Sangrur, Dr Indu, SDM, Malerkotla, had submitted her final report in connection with an FIR registered against Dr V. P. Goel of Malerkotla for allegedly showing negligence in performing operations on Akbari and Rashida of the same town who had died due to post-operative complications.

Talking to The Tribune, Mr Ladhar said, “Though I have yet to study the recommendations of the committee, we have ensured that all aspects of the case were taken into account.”

“We will make sure that justice is done to all concerned,” claimed Mr Ladhar.

Besides taking opinion of expert doctors, Dr Indu had visited the hospitals where the deceased had availed treatment after being declared serious by the doctor, disclosed the DC.

Mohamad Akhtar and Mohamad Faruq, brothers of Akbari and Rashda, respectively, had alleged that their sisters had died due to negligence of Dr V.P. Goel who had operated on them.

According to Mohamad Akhtar, Akbari had been taken to the hospital run by Dr V.P. Goel in the first week of June. As the pain, the patient had complained about, persisted even after the treatment, the doctors advised that the complication should be corrected through surgery that was conducted on June 10.

When the condition of the patient worsened after the operation, she was referred to the DMC, Ludhiana, and later to the PGI, Chandigarh, where Akbari died on June 14.

Accepting the tragedy as their fate, the family decided to keep quiet. Similar allegations were levelled by Mohamad Faruq who alleged that his sister Rashda had died due to negligence of Dr Goel.

According to him, Rashda Parveen had been shifted to Dr Goel’s hospital after she complained of abdominal pain on June 7.

Diagnosing the ailment as hernia, the doctor advised an operation that was conducted on June 20.

On worsening of her condition post operation, Rashda Parveen was shifted to DMC, Ludhiana, where she died on June 27.

The death of Rashda Parveen angered both families who started demanding an action against the doctor.

The situation went out of control when a mob attacked the hospital and residence of the doctor.
