A top academic has said that British students are not the best at English, and believes that foreign students are better at speaking and writing the language. "Often people who have studied a foreign language formally are better at it. There are more students coming from Europe — yet we do not see a corresponding flow of UK students going in the opposite direction. Inevitably, it leads to greater competition, "Professor Malcolm Grant of University College, London, was quoted by The Sun as saying. Boris Johnson, the Conservative Party’s
Shadow Higher Education Minister, said the trend was a "savage
indictment" of English standards in British schools. Last year, the
number of students from the EU in UK colleges was 100,005, up 3.2 per
cent on the previous year. — ANI |
