Monkey business
Jaspal Bhatti

A few days back Lalu Prasad Yadav was in Shimla. After paying his respects at a local temple, he and his wife fed the monkeys there with bananas and other fruits. The monkeys gesticulated every time as if to say, "Sir, we have no objection but you could land in a bit of trouble and be even fined Rs 500 for feeding us."

Recently, the Himachal Pradesh Government banned the feeding of monkeys in public places to cut down on monkey hooliganism. I think Lalu must have forgotten about the ban. Or it could be a matter of habit.

Lalu’s love for animals is well known and it must have been due to his sweeping love for monkeys that he brushed aside the ban.

The Himachal Government should have gifted the minister with at least 1,000 to 1,500 monkeys. This way the monkey menace would have reduced considerably and Lalu and Rabri would have had their bit of entertainment at home.

The word ‘impossible’ does not exist in Lalu’s dictionary. I only hope that in the company of so many monkeys instead of the normal ticket collectors, one would not get to see monkeys checking tickets in the trains.
