Doc lauded for his work on book

Ludhiana, June 1
Dr A.S Sekhon, Director Principal, Adesh Medical College, Bathinda, along with Mr Jugdip Singh, Director, SPS Apollo Hospitals, formally released a book on “Examination of Shoulder”, edited by Dr Harpreet S. Gill, Consultant in the Department of Orthopaedics at SPS Apollo at a function here today.

The author of the book is Prof Edward G. Mcfarland, Vice Chairman of Orthopaedic Department, John Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore (USA) and it has been published by Thieme Publishers, New York, USA.

Dr Gill had worked on this book during his fellowship at John Hopkins University School of Medicine. He happens to be the first orthopaedic surgeon of the region to be the editor of an international text book in orthopaedics.

He has more than 50 international publications and presentations to his credit. Dr Gill has also been invited for various international and national conferences as a guest speaker.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sekhon said it was matter of great pride for him as one of his student had made a name for himself in orthopedics. He said in the present scenario when exchange of knowledge, as well as medical and surgical techniques was very fast, the professionals also needed to keep abreast with latest developments the world over. He described Dr Gill as a rare combination of an academician and a practising surgeon in orthopaedics.

Mr Jugdip Singh congratulated Dr Gill on this distinction while observing that it was a matter of great honour for SPS Apollo Hospitals. He further said the Department of Orthopaedics, with its state of art technology, was doing well in trauma care, handling of sports injuries and joint replacements.

Commenting on the book, Dr Gill remarked that the publication would be of great help to medical students, and also to orthopaedic surgeons. It was a complete guide for shoulder examination. “New concepts in shoulder surgery have been introduced and the accompanying DVD contains footage of the examination techniques for easy comprehension and review.”

Dr Dogra to attend dermatology meet in Australia

Dr Alka Dogra, Professor and Head, Department of Dermatology, Venerology and Leprology, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, here has been invited as a guest speaker in the 5th World Congress of International Academy of Cosmetic Dermatology, to be held in Melbourne, Australia, later this year.

In recognition of her work on cosmetics and skin, she would be delivering a talk on ‘Adverse Reactions to Cosmetics’ in the ‘Cosmetics Contact Dermatitis Section’.

The following have been selected to represent Ludhiana in the Punjab Junior and Sub-Junior Swimming Championship to be held at Golden Earth Global School, Sangrur, from June 2 to 4: junior boys: Ayaljot Singh, Aala Singh, Vibhor Mundepi, Mohit Bhardwaj, Amarpal Singh, Harman Singh, Sunil Kumar, Smile, Deepansh Sharma, Nikhil, Sunil, Jagdeep Singh, Kishanjeet Singh, Bharat Sharma, Jaskirat Singh, Jivesh Batra, Parteek Goyal, Navdeep Singh, Raj Kumar and Harsharn Singh.

Junior girls: Nitika Vats, Depika Khanna, Jaspreet Kaur, Manavi Nitika Sood, Arushi Gupta, Chiranjeev Kaur, Arshpreet Kaur, Stuti Monga and Avantika Sharma.

The selections were made during two-day trials conducted here from May 27 at the Municipal Corporation pool, said Balraj Sharma, honorary general secretary, Ludhiana District Swimming Association.
