Confetti
A Contest
S. Nihal Singh
Clouds kiss
the hills
over the urban
spawl of Thimphu.
Sturdy dogs
sit contented
by the hilly
wayside.
Women in stately
full-length dresses
negotiate
the streets.
Time stands
still
in the
refreshing cold.
Yet the modern
world intrudes
with colas,
TV and Internet.
How can Bhutan
marry the
treasured old
with the new?
The contest
is on.
Or is the battle
already lost?
