5 students of Harkrishan School on merit list

Doraha, May 24
Five students of the local Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School have come on the merit list of Class VIII of the Punjab School Education Board.

Sujata Bhardwaj, who has secured 42nd rank in the state, is second in Ludhiana district and first in Payal tehsil. Abhinav Kaushal stood second in Payal tehsil.

Sahil Kapila, Sakshi Sharma and Kavleen Rakhra, too, are in the merit list.

It was a festive mood in the school with the Director, Ms Umil Kaur, and staff congratulating students and their parents for their good performance.

Ms Umil Kaur said this had been made possible only with the hard work of the students, devotion of the teachers and cooperation of the parents.

Mr Jandeep Kaushal, chairman, Youth Forum, Doraha, congratulated the students.

Machhiwara: Six students of the local Shakti Public Senior Secondary School and four of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Public School also figured on the merit list.

Nancy Goyal of Shaheed Bhagat Singh School stood first in Samrala and Khanna tehsils and sixth in Ludhiana district. Manpreet Kaur, Amandeep Kaur and Gobind Kapoor of Shakti Public Senior Secondary School got second, third and fourth position, respectively, in Samrala and Khanna tehsils and seventh, eighth and eleventh position, respectively, in the district.

Anu Nanchahal of Shaheed Bhagat Singh School stood fifth in Samrala and Khanna tehsils and 12th in the district.

Jasmeen Marwaha, Shivali Manchanda and Balbir Kaur of Shakti Public Senior Secondary School stood sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, in the tehsil and 16th, 17th and 24th, respectively, in the district.

Damini Chopra and Harpreet Kaur of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Public High School stood ninth and 10th, respectively, in Samrala and Khanna tehsils.

Hansra takes over as School of Agriculture head

Dr B.S Hansra is Director, School of Agriculture, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. He is an alumnus of PAU and till recently was Joint Director General, Extension Education, ICAR. He took voluntary retirement to join as Director.

The School of Agriculture of IGNOU was established in 2005 with the aim to ‘‘improve and sustain productivity and quality of human life in rural areas through open distance learning, system in agriculture and allied sectors’’.

Dr Hansra obtained his graduate and postgraduate degrees in Agriculture from PAU and was Head of the Department of Extension Education before he moved to ICAR as Assistant Director-General, Agricultural Extension in 1994.

Talking of School of Agriculture, Dr Hansra today said besides its degree programmes, the school also offers certificates and diploma courses in various agriculture-related activities. These range from Agriculture Production System, Livestock and Fisheries Production System, to Products Technology and Value Addition, Agriculture Policy and Agri-Business Management, Natural Resource Management, to Extension and Communication System .

Dr Hansra has won Manden-Hall Memorial Prize of the School of Education and was an ‘‘outstanding’’ graduate student at Ohio State University, USA.

Investiture ceremony held

Mandi Gobindgarh, May 24
Sacred Heart senior Secondary School, Mandi Gobindgarh, organised the investiture ceremony of the student's council yesterday. The function was presided over by the Chairman of the school, Mr Jose Kottaram and the Principal, Mrs A. Sakarsudha.

Mr Amandeep Singh and Miss Kirandeep Kaur were elected as head boy and head girl of the school. The house in charges, Mr Shashi Kumar Rana Truth House, Mr Gulshan Kumar, Joy House, Mrs Kuldeep Kaur, Love House, Miss Manish Sharma, Peace House, introduced their Captains and Vice Captains to the school. The Head girl, Head Boy and Captains of the houses spoke on the occasion and urged the students to cooperative with them in the discharge of their duties.

Members of the students' council were honoured with sashes and badges by the Chairman and Principal.
