2 cops killed

Srinagar, April 27
Two Jammu and Kashmir police personnel were killed in the state overnight, official sources said.

Official sources said hundreds of people, mostly women and children, today took to the streets at Aragamm, Bandipora, protesting against the security forces.

The demonstrators, who blocked traffic and observed total shutdown, alleged that security forces last night resorted to indiscriminate firing on a police vehicle resulting in on-the-spot death of constable Nazir Ahmad and injuries to another constable.

They alleged a police party had come to the village after villagers had lodged a complaint that the security forces posted in the area were harassing locals.

Senior police and civil officials have rushed to the area, the sources added.

A police press note issued here this evening said one constable died and another was injured in a firing incident. It said a case has been registered in this connection.

It said another constable Ghulam Qadir Dar, was on the way to Awantipora when militants stopped his vehicle at Tral and killed him. — UNI
