Teachers' bodies to intensify struggle
Ludhiana, April 15 The district president of the union, Mr Paramjit Singh Mann, in a press note issued here has condemned the Education Department for not filling job vacancies . He said the authorities were needlessly delaying court proceedings and, thus, were denying job opportunities to these teachers. He added further that the government wanted to give jobs to BEd teachers. According to a ruling of the Supreme Court the vacancies could be filled only by ETT teachers. He said they were not against BEd teachers, but first the jobs should be given to the unemployed ETT teachers. The government had said there were only 400 vacancies whereas 5,850 unemployed ETT teachers were without jobs. He also alleged that Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab, and Mr Pratap Singh Bajwa, PWD Minister, were filling vacancies in their own districts so that in the coming Assembly elections they could find favours with the masses. If the government was serious, they would finish court cases and employ ETT teachers. Mr Piara Singh Dhillon and Mr Charan Singh Sarabha of the front also stated that the merger of primary schools with middle and high schools would render 15,000 head and centre head teachers jobless . They were displeased with this decision and would hold a rally on April 17 and 21, in front of the Mini Secretariat, and present a memorandum of demands to the District Education Officer.
