ulta pulta
Big deal

FIVE years ago, I was travelling in the US for a show. Singer Mika was also a part of my troupe. While I was buying a laptop, Mika asked me, "How much are you paying for this laptop?"

I said, "About one lakh in Indian currency." He said, "Bhaji, why don’t you buy a piece of land instead." At that time he might have been joking, but considering the property boom, I consider myself an idiot who didn’t buy land with that money.

Last week, a friend suggested that a housing plot was for sale in Haryana. "It’s at a very reasonable price. Don’t miss it."

He told me, "Bring ‘20’ as advance out of ‘one-and-a-half’ and the deal will be done". Since the location explained to me was very attractive, I rushed to the seller with the advance money.

When the seller asked for the advance, I proudly placed Rs 20,000 on his table. My friend again asked me to hand over the advance to the seller. I told him, "You asked for 20 and here are 20."

My friend was furious. He said, "When I said ‘20’, I meant Rs 20 lakh."

I apologised to my friend telling him that he had not clarified that ‘20’meant Rs 20 lakh. He told me sarcastically, "This is a very poor joke. Normally, 20 means Rs 20 crore, but for small property deals 20 stands for Rs 20 lakh.
