THOSE who have heard her sing those mellifluous ghazals on television are in for a surprise as Sonali Rathod dons a new role. Sonali Rathod has come out with a hip hop jazz-and-pop album, This Is Me Sunali.

But more than the album, it is the video shot on the single Ooh Ooh Aah Aah that will take the viewers by surprise. They are not likely to recognise the ghazal singer they’ve known for so long as Sonali switches her trademark girl-next-door attire with hip designer clothes and strikes a svelte pop diva pose.

The album comprises eight tracks composed by Leslie Lewis. The video shot by Kiran Deohans captures the sensuality and subtle romance of the sensuous love ballets.

Back to her roots

Almost three decades after retiring as one of Bollywood’s most durable stars, Asha Parekh has been making waves on the small screen.

After a classy comedy, Daal Mein Kaala, a highly popular tearjerker, Kora Kagaz and a soapy Kangan, she now returns with a Gujarati serial Akhanda Saubhagyavati on ETV Gujarati.

"I have gone back to my roots," says Parekh, who has acted in a number of Gujarati films. Akhanda Saubhagyavati is her third Gujarati serial after Jyoti and Nari Tu Na Hari. She has also started shooting for a new Hindi serial. "Whether making a comedy or a family drama, I derive immense professional satisfaction from television."
