Inter-college contests

Ludhiana, February 22
The Fine Arts and Home Science Department of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women (GNKCW) organised inter-college competitions on the college premises here yesterday. Several colleges participated in the competitions.

In still-life competition, Shweyta of GNKCW stood first, Rishu Jain from DD Jain College came second while Palwinder of GNKCW declared the third.

In portrait making, Davinder of GNKCW stood first, Jaspreet Kaur of Ramgarhia Girls College second and Gurkamal of GNKCW secured the third position.

In Fine Arts: Sonia Verma of Ramgarhia Girls College bagged the first prize and Jaspreet Dua of GNKCW won the second prize. In full life, Isha of GNKCW declared first, Meenakshi of DD Jain College second while Pooja of GNKCW declared third.

In flower arrangement, Ravneet and Prabhdeep of GNKCW and Guru Nanak Girls College, respectively, won the first prize, Gagandeep of Guru Nanak Girls College declared second while Richa of GNKCW adjudged third.

In embroidery competition, Chetna of Ramgarhia Girls College won the first prize, Karanjeet from Guru Nanak Girls College won the second prize and Hardeep from Ramgarhia Girls College remained third. In crochet, Rajinder of GNKCW bagged the first position, Amarjeet from Guru Nanak Girls College was second and Manjinder from Government College for Women stood third. In knitting, Kavita of GNKCW declared first, Sushma from Guru Nanak Girls College was second and Rajwant of GNKCW stood third.

Dr. Manju Chawla, Principal of the college congratulated the students and gave away the prizes to the winners.

Blood donation camp

Meanwhile, the NSS and Youth Club of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women organised a blood donation camp in collaboration with Shri Krishna Charitable Hospital here today.

The camp, inaugurated by Dr Chawla, was organised under the guidance of Ms Jaswinder Kaur, Ms Parveen Arora, Ms Seema Dua and Ms Gurinderjit. As many as 21 units of blood were collected and refreshment was given to the donors.

Lecture at Gujranwala College

The Department of Foreign Trade Practices and Procedures of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College here organised an extension lecture on “Foreign Trade Policies and Indian Economy”. The guest speaker on the occasion was Mr Vijay Kumar Gupta, Regional Joint Director General, Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce.

Prof Parneet Singh, coordinator, introduced the speaker to the audience. Principal Tarlochan Singh welcomed Mr Gupta, who explained the genesis of foreign trade and explained how India’s share in the global GDP, which used to be 22.6 per cent before Independence had come down to 1.75 per cent at present. He also discussed the evolution of the Foreign Trade Policy.

He highlighted the present role of the DGFT in issuing export/import license within a period of 24 hours. He mentioned various policies, programmes and schemes, which have been launched by the government to encourage and boost country’s exports.

An interactive session followed the lecture and students enthusiastically participated in the deliberations and learned a great deal of practical knowledge about the intricacies of the working of the government in the sphere of foreign trade.

In the end, Prof Manveen Kaur and Prof Gaganpreet Batra proposed a vote of thanks on behalf of the college. Dr Anita Nayyar, Prof Raminder Kaur, Prof Harjinder Singh, Prof Rajinder Singh were also present on the occasion.

Competition in teaching

Ludhiana, February 22
Panjab University inter-zonal skill-in-teaching and teaching aid preparation competitions were held at Partap College of Education today. Participants from nearly 35 B.Ed colleges from four different zones took part. Dr S.C. Gakhar, chairman, Department of Education, Panjab University, was the observer.

Dr Ravinder Kaur, Dean Faculty, Panjab University, was also present in this competition. Judges were appointed from eminent schools and colleges. The competition was held in the teaching of English, Punjabi, Hindi, social studies, economics and commerce . The on the spot teaching aid preparation competition involved preparation of working and static models.

English- Munmun, Doraha College of Education, Doraha.

Commerce-Jyotika Marwaha, DD Jain College of Education, Ludhiana.

Dist Bar prepares for poll

Ludhiana, February 22
The District Bar Association has constituted a committee for identifying bogus outstation votes, fixing the responsibility and suggesting reforms in the election process. The committee will submit its report before the general house.

P Lall will be the coordinator of the committee. Other members of the committee include Parveen Talwar, Ajit Singh Kumar, M.C. Sehgal, Sushma and Vijay Sharma. S.K. Pathak will be the special invitee.

The association has also constituted finance committee, building committee, chambers committee (old chambers) and an advisory board for the smooth functioning of the association, said Naval Kishore Chibber, president of the DBA.

As many as 16 lawyers have been nominated in the building committee, constituted for the construction of new chambers.
