Jagmeet Samunderri, an alumnus of the Department of Mass Communications, Panjab University, Chandigarh, will play a mimicry artiste in Personal se sawal karti hai, a film-based programme on Sahara One’s Hindi movie channel Filmy. According to Samunderri, a reporter will ask funny questions from Bollywood personalities and get replies in the same manner. The programme will also include comical sting operations, he says. This young man from Mukerian (Punjab) will be imitating Gulshan Grover, Shakti Kapoor, Jagdeep, Dara Singh, Mughal emperor Akbar, Yash Chopra and Dharmendra in these spoofs. Sharing his experience of doing a Yash Chopra, he says that it took more than three hours to do the make-up. "As Chopra is bald and his nose is bigger than mine, so I had to put on a bald patch, a nose mould and white hair patches on my eyebrows and around the bald patch". "The viewers are fed up with family dramas and are looking for good comedy programmes, which is a good omen for artistes like me. The mimics, who were paid around Rs 2,000 per day earlier, are now offered money in five figures," he says. Samunderri, who never missed an opportunity to make people laugh during his university days, is already making waves on the small screen in serials like Anant (Zee TV), Shh... koi hai (Star Plus), Sab golmal hai (SAB TV) etc. He is also doing two movies, of which one will be shot in London. |
