Artists rue absence of
photo art gallery
Ludhiana, January 8 The three-day exhibition was inaugurated by the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Mr Surjit Singh Barnala. Mr Anurag Verma, Deputy Commissioner, was the guest of honour. More than 70 photographs depicting nature have been exhibited. They have been shot in India and locations in Holland, Dubai and many other countries. Some of the photographs depict life in Punjab villages. Vivid colours of life have been shown in pictures of sunrise and sunset. “While clicking the pictures, we use our experience and photo techniques, keeping in mind proper composition and lighting. We avoid capturing miseries or dark side of life depicting poverty, ailments etc. We feel pictures should make you feel happy”, said Ranjodh Singh. Sandhu said there was not a single private photo gallery in Ludhiana. “We really miss an art gallery here”, he added. “The saint” depicts an old man and a tree while “The survival” has a lone tree on a mountain in Laddakh. “Cactus” looks like a brain in the skull and the artist duo have named in Saddam’s brain. Similar exhibitions of their photographs have been held in Chandigarh and Jalandhar. |
Over 600 examined at medical camps
Ludhiana, January 8 Mr Surinder Dawar, Parliamentary Secretary, inaugurated the camp. He said medical treatment had become unaffordable for the weaker sections of the society. In such a scenario, service clubs and voluntary organisations could play a significant role in bringing the modern medical facilities within the reach of the common people. According to Mr Kala Hans, president of the mission, ration and blankets were distributed among needy persons at the occasion. At another medical check-up camp in alternate therapies, more than100 ex-servicemen and their dependents were examined. The camp was organised jointly by the District Sainik Welfare Board and the Naval Ex-Servicemen League with the assistance of Mann Health Cure Centre. Among others, Lt Commander Tarlochan Singh, District Sainik Welfare Officer, Mr Gurdev Singh, president, Indian Ex-Servicemen League and Mr Manmohan Singh were present at the camp. |

Follow nature to nurture body, mind: experts

Nayak, lecturer in kaya chikitsa and panchkarma, and Dr Sangram Misra, lecturer in basic principles of Ayurveda at Guru Nanak Ayurvedic Medical College, Gopalpur, said a large number of persons had fallen prey to host of diseases, which were caused due to laziness with dependence on luxurious equipment and gadgets. “Though modern gadgets, including air conditioners, refrigerators and modes of transportation, have become necessary for leading a normal life, majority of users instead of boosting their efficiency have become lethargic, unwilling to work and exercise. In such a life style they easily contract chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiac ailments and pulmonary ones,” the lecturers said while talking to the Ludhiana Tribune. A slight modification in our routine could save us from unnecessary sufferings and medication. Enumerating advantages of the getting up in “Braham mahurat”, “prakhsyalan”, “dantoon”, massage and other exercises, the Ayurvedic doctors claimed that these had been devised after a long research by our forefathers. Emphasising on panchkarma, Dr Nayak and Dr Misra said methods of detoxification in Ayurveda were more effective than any other method. Preventive, rejuvenative and curative methods of detoxification were effective for individuals of all ages, they claimed. Urging educational and social organisations of the area to make the masses aware about the advantages of standard life pattern, they laid stress on the slogan, “Follow nature to nurture body and mind”. |

Doctors for awareness on glaucoma
Amloh, January 8 He was addressing the gathering on the inauguration of an eye check-up camp organised by the Manav Bhalai Manch at Maghi Memorial College for Girls here today. He suggested various precautions to maintain a good eyesight. He highlighted the advancement in technology in this field. Mr S.K. Khanna, chairman of the Khanna Vikas Club, and Mr Prem Bansal, an industrialist from Mandi Gobindgarh, inaugurated the camp. Mr Khanna assured the members of the manch to extend financial help for providing the needy patients with eye lenses. Former council chief Tejwant Singh, chairman of the manch Som Nath Lutava and Mr Manohar Lal Verma addressed the gathering. Dr Jaspal Singh Dhami, DEO, Ropar, Mr Roshan Lal, former council chief, Mr Baldev Sedha, Dr Parveen Singh Mittal, project in charge, were among the prominent persons present at the camp. Mr Bhagwan Singh Majri acted as stage secretary. More than 300 patients were examined by a team of three doctors and 20 members of the staff. Medicines were given free of cost to the patients. |

Girl students apprised of gynae problems
Ludhiana, January 8 Honorary Director Sushil Verma and officiating Principal Shashi Bindal inaugurated the camp. Dr Justin Das, Dr Dilpreet, Dr Jyotika, Dr Meenu and paramedical staff examined students and guided them about various gynecological problems. They provided information about various female diseases and medicines were given free of cost to the students. About 250 students were examined in the camp.The camp was held under the supervision of NSS Programme officers, Ms Sudesh Bhalla, Ms Nivedita Arora and Ms Sunita. |

Srivastava will be examined the patients and render professional advice. Various medical tests like ECG, blood sugar level and blood pressure will be conducted free of cost during the camp. |

In the boys’ category, the first prize was bagged by DAV Public School while the second position was secured by BCM Arya Model School, and GHG, Sidhwan Khurd, was placed at the third position.
