Tisca Chopra…Big screen beckons
Tisca Chopra…Big screen beckons.

Tisca Chopra could easily be one of the few stars on television who does selective work. "I only take up projects that I enjoy," says the lady.

Seen in the political saga Sarrkkar on Zee TV she has recently done a film on abusive marriages. Directed by Alankrita Srivastav, an assistant to Prakash Jha, the film is both intense and eerily relevant. "I met Alankrita during the making of Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan. Since our work styles gel I had no second thoughts about her offer," says Tisca.

Though having done serials like Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki , Astitva and Sarrkkar, TV remains her main forte, Tisca seems to be preparing to step into Bollywood. She was lately seen in Bappa Aditya Roy’s critically acclaimed film Sau Jhooth Ek Saach starring Vikram Gokhale and Lillette Dubey. She also did a cameo in Hyderabad Blues 2.

"Though films are my top priority I am not giving up TV in a hurry. I’ll keep looking for quality roles on both the small and big screens." Now, now Tisca, hasn’t anyone told you that in showbiz it never pays to keep your feet in two boats!

Frankly, he was a class apart

Frank Sinatra: Voice of the Century
Frank Sinatra: Voice of the Century

THE last century may have seen more prolific and talented singers but Frank Sinatra was one of a kind. He had the gift to sing for the listener with an appeal that went straight to the heart. It was a passionate one-to-one affair between him and his legion of fans which bridged generations and blossomed into a virtual cult following.

The king of the crooners is the focus of a two-part documentary, Frank Sinatra: The Voice of the Century on BBC World on January 14, 7.40 pm Friends, acquaintances and lovers gather together to assess the life of one of the 20th century’s greatest singers.

His journey to singing greatness began in 1934. Within years Ol’ Blue Eyes—as he was popularly known—had single-handedly elevated what he condescendingly referred to as saloon singing to a high art. In a span of 60 years he had enriched music with countless recordings of many of America’s best songs.

When he died in 1998 author Robert Zehme wrote, "Arguably, no man ever lived life more confidently or stylishly than Frank Sinatra." And that in simple words appropriately described Sinatra—the complex legend of the 20th century.

Game show with a difference
