of clothing
like a new-born babe,
she rides the scooter.
Helmet on head,
her dupatta flying,
she is the new face
of India in
the 21st century.
Her baggy salwar
flops in the breeze.
She negotiates
crowded streets
with skill.
If only tradition
had not burdened her
to negotiate
the world
with excess baggage.
