Jawaharlal Nehru and
daughter Indira Gandhi were the two towering figures largely
instrumental in laying the foundation of modern India. The
Nehru-Gandhi clans were virtually the architects who shaped India’s
destiny in the first four decades after Independence. The
Nehru-Gandhi Dynasty on December 19 at 10 p.m. on the History
Channel dwells on the life and times of the family whose
paterfamilias; Motilal Nehru was a lawyer and a staunch disciple of
Mahatma Gandhi — the inspirational root of the dynasty. While
blessed with incredible political success, the family has been touched
by tragedy in equal measure. Though the Nehru-Gandhi families have
been the standard bearers for Indian independence, they have done so
at a high personal cost. Indira Gandhi and her elder son Rajiv were
killed by assassins while her younger son Sanjay died in an air crash.
Their legacy and influence easily make them the Kennedys of India but
with a difference. The Kennedy clan may not have an apparent
successor, the new generation of the Gandhi family seems ready to move
in. — NF Childhood revisited
He’s back but this
time exclusively for kids. Anupam Kher returns as the kids’
favourite uncle in Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi Baatein on Zee Smile
every Friday at 8 p.m. An endearing show meant for kids and parents
alike, it transports viewers to the world of kids where nothing is
complicated and there is no issue that cannot be resolved. Though it
may look like a rehash of his earlier kiddie serial Say Na
Something to Anupam Uncle, Kher disagrees and says it is not a
rehash but an extension of his previous show as he has included
parents in the new series. "The show bridges the gap between
parents and kids," says Kher. The star has collaborated
with his younger brother Raju Kher in producing Kuch Khatti Kuch
Meethi Baatein. He says, "the concept and idea were Raju’s
but we have both drawn from our childhood in Shimla. We’ve now
virtually started thinking like kids." |
