Confetti
The pen
S. NIHAL SINGH
The ubiquitous pen
proudly nestles
in the breast pocket
of politicians.
It is a famous brand,
sometimes two of them,
sometimes beside
a peeping silk kerchief.
If you wear a buttoned-up
jacket military style,
you must advertise
your pens.
What if the world
hides pens in
inside pockets, with
kerchief in sole command.
India is unique,
as are her
politicians,
cutting across party lines.
Yet sometimes
they are swayed
by the foreign
hand.
George W. wears
Stars and Stripes
on his jacket lapel
and on his sleeves.
Our netas
follow suit.
The Tricolour flies
On waistcoats.
