Call centre is the hero

India Calling… In sync with the times
India Calling
… In sync with the times

It’s a story that captures the flavour of the season and has started its climb on the charts from the first episode. Set against the backdrop of a romance, India Calling, Monday to Wednesday at 9.30 pm on Star One, is all about young people working in call centres. The story has a very clichéd beginning when a Jalandhar girl Chandni, comes to fast-paced Mumbai in search of her sister. Soon enough, the story starts gunning for the stars after Chandni picks up an assignment at India Calling. The serial takes us through Chandni’s life at her new job and her instant romantic chemistry with Aditya, a city slicker and a snob whose grandpa, owns the call centre.

There are also some key characters at the call centre like Prashant the team leader, Patil the taxi driver and Tyson the security head who give a realistic touch to the action. Packed with mass appeal, India Calling captures the spirit of the sunrise sector that is becoming a serious career option for an increasing number of young people.

Life in a dance bar

Hope Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, R.R Patil, doesn’t get wind of this. The man who single-mindedly spearheaded the campaign to ban the dance bars, would be shocked to discover there’s one joint that’s doing roaring business thanks to two sizzling dancers.

So if you missed seeing a bar dance here’s your opportunity to see one in Hari Mirchi Laal Mirchi, being aired on Thursdays at 9 pm on Doordarshan.

The story goes something like this….Tired of trying to please his two wives, Rohan decides to de-stress in a dance bar.

His wives come to know of his plan and to teach him a lesson and masquerade as bar dancers.

Before their prank is over, women realise they have walked into big trouble. A dangerous Mafia Don falls head over heels for them and after their performance, orders they spend the night with him.

What follows is complete mayhem. Though all’s well that ends well.

It was a great experience playing bar dancers, say the two ladies Shalini Kapoor and Neeru Bajwa. For Bajwa, "It was like a practise session for Nach Baliye, where I perform with Amit Sadh. It worked wonderfully for me." Considering the two were eliminated early in the show it hardly seems to have worked wonders!
