Karnataka comfortable against Maharashtra

Chandigarh, November 29
A superb knock of 129 off 240 balls put Karnataka in comfortable position against Maharashtra in the first innings of the Elite group A Cooch Behar Trophy match being played at Sector 16 cricket stadium, here, today.

Earlier, Maharashtra were bundled out for 179 in 88.4 overs in the first innings.

The main scorer for the team was Harshal Khadiwale who made 56 runs.

In reply, Karnataka started on a cautious note in spite of losing their first wicket for just 24 runs. S. Vinodh was the first batsman who was bowled by Vaibhav.

The marathon 138-run partnership, shared between Sunil Jain and V. Cheluvaraj, consolidated the team’s position on the second day. Jain was dropped by Patkal at 101.

At the end of the day, Karnataka were on 255 for 4 in 90 overs. V. Kendale, Nikhil Paradkar and Mandar Chiplunkar claimed one wicket each.

S. Vinodh 11, Sunil Jain 129, V. Cheluraraj 40, Ganesh Satish 20 (run out) , Amit Verma 38.

Chair umpires appointed

Chandigarh, November 29
Two International Tennis Federation white badge officials and products of Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association, Parveen Kumar and Birbal Wadhera, have been appointed as chair umpires for the $ 10,000 India F7 Men’s Future Tennis Tournament. The tournament is being conducted by Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association at the CLTA Sector 10 Tennis stadium, here, from December 5 to 10 and the qualifying matches will be played on December 3 and 4.

Parveen Kumar, who at present is imparting training at St Peter’s School in Sector 37 and Strawberry Fields World School, Sector 26, has been appointed as White badge chair umpire for the $ 10,000 December India F8 Men’s Future Tennis Tournament to be held from December 12 to 16 (qualifying draws on December 10 and11) at the RK Khanna Stadium in New Delhi.

According to information received by CLTA chairman Rajan Kashyap, Sheetal Iyer will be the referee of the Chandigarh ITF Men’s Futures while Nitin Kannamwar will be the bronze badge chair umpire.

Nitin will be referee for the Delhi ITF Men’s Futures while Puneet Gupta will act as bronze badge chair umpire. Parveen Kumar (Chandigarh) and Saibal Bannerjee (Kolkata) will be white badge chair umpires.

City rowers bag gold

Chandigarh, November 29
Mangat and Manjeet of Chandigarh Rowing Association won the gold medal in coxless Pairs (M2) in the 26th Junior National Rowing Championship, held at Bhopal (MP) from November 22 to 26. Mangat, Manjeet, Robin Rawat and Bittu also won gold medals in coxless fours (M4) during the championship. Mr. Kanav Dosajh stood fourth in single sculls (M1X). Mr Arvind Sehgal coached the team.

It is pertinent to mention that in the men’s category there were only four events, out of which two gold medals were won by Chandigarh Rowing Association. TNS
