Homoeopathic college gets new eye wing

Ludhiana, November 27
A new eye wing in the name of “Shrimati Vidya Wati Ram Parshad Jain” has been set up at Lord Mahavira Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, courtesy M/s Sriyansh Group of Industries.

The new eye wing was formally inaugurated today at an impressive function by Mr Paramjit Singh Sibia, chairman of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust. Jain Muni Shri Padam Chand performed “mangal paath” and delivered a discourse on this occasion.

Addressing the function, Mr Hira Lal Jain, working president of the college, highlighted the significance of the new project while informing that all types of minor and major surgical procedures for correction of eye problems and stitchless eye surgery (phaco) would be performed at highly subsidised cost for the benefit of poor patients.

Fun games mark Alpine School sports day

Ludhiana, November 27
The annual sports day of Alpine International Senior Secondary School, Ferozepore Road, was organised today. Hundreds of students took part in the fun and other regular sports events.

Mr Gianinder Singh Sandhu, District Sports Officer, declared the meet open.

He took salute from the participants in an impressive march past. Pigeons and colorful balloons were released to mark the opening of the function.

This was followed by different drills like lazium, dumbells, rings, pom pomps and flags.

Young gymnasts jumped through the rings and exhibited excellent flexibility as well as balance.

The star attraction of the meet were clown race, balloon race, frog race, kite race, hop race and three-legged race.

A musical chair race was also held for the parents of the students.

CBSE hockey meet begins

Ludhiana, November 27
Spring Dale Public School of Amritsar scored a thumping 14-0 win in the boys’ section (u-14) in the opening match of the CBSE National Hockey Tournament, which began at Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar, here today. Amritsar lads swarmed Sainik School of Bijapur to begin their campaign on sound note.

Earlier, Ramandeep Singh Grewal, former captain of the Indian hockey team and Deputy Director, Sports, Punjab Agricultural University, inaugurated the tournament in which 24 teams of boys and girls in the age groups of u-14 and u-19 are taking part.

Mr Shashi Bhushan, Joint Secretary, Administration and Legal, CBSE, New Delhi, was the guest of honour.

Addressing the participants, Ramandeep Singh said students should take keen interest in sports and for that they should plan their daily schedule in such a way that they could spend some time in the ground for sports purposes to remain physically fit and mentally strong.

Mr Pushkar Vohra, AEO (Sports), CBSE, Dr Sarita Tyagi, observer, Reader at Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, New Delhi, Mr Jasbir Singh, President, Guru Nanak Public School Management Committee, were among other distinguished persons who attended the inaugural function.

Mr R.S. Gill, Principal of the host school, welcomed the participants and guest. He thanked Mr L.S. Lamba and Mr N.S. Sidhu, head of the physical Education Department, for making excellent arrangements for the four-day tournament.

Meanwhile, hosts had a good start in the boys’ section by registering 3-0 win over Vivekanand Memorial Public School of Rai Singh Nagar, Rajasthan. In other matches played today, SJS Public School Rai Bareli lsot to Netajit Model School, Ropar, 0-5 and Father Angel School of Noida thrashed The White Eagles of Devpur 8-0.

Ludhiana girl wins 5,000 m walk

A local girl, Navdeep Kaur, won 5000 m walk in the u-19 section on the second day of the 51st Punjab State Schools Inter-District Athletics Meet at Guru Nanak Stadium here today.

Navkiran Kaur and Amritpal Kaur, both from Amritsar, finished second and third, respectively.

In the boys’ section, Jalandhar’s Hardeep Singh secured the first spot while Antar Singh of Gurdaspur and Satgur Singh of Sangrur got the other two places.

Sandeep, Smriti bag TT titles

Sandeep Singh of Bharatiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School and Smriti from Alpine International Senior School bagged titles in the cadet boys’ and girls’ sections, respectively, in the Ludhiana District Table Tennis Championship being played at Shastri Hall of Guru Nanak Stadium here today.
