Workshop on health of elderly

A two-day workshop on “Health of elderly: aging gracefully” began at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, here on today.
It has been organised by the Urban Health Training Centre of the Department of Community Medicine in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry. It was inaugurated by the GMCH, Director, Dr H.M. Swami.

DAV beat Tribune School in soccer

DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, thrashed Tribune Model School, Sector 29, by 6-1 in the group ‘A’ of the Chandigarh Mini Under-14 Boys Football Tournament for the Shivalik Trophy being organised by the Chandigarh Football Association at Football Stadium, Sector 17, here today.

DAV Senior Secondary School dominated the proceedings throughout the match as its forward Dharamvir netted the first goal in the very first minute. Dharamvir scored a total of three goals. His other two goals came in the fifth and 47 th minutes.

The other scorers for DAVSSS-8 were Ashwani, Ramesh Kumar, and Pawan Kumar.

The lone goal for the Tribune Model School came from Ramesh Kumar in the 42nd minute.

In another match of group A, St Kabir School, Sector 26, defeated Mount Carmel School, Sector 47, by 3-0. Abhey Thakur scored a brace. Anil Rana added his mite in winners’ tally.

In group B, Vivek High School, Sector 38 beat St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44 by 3-1.

Ryans International, Sector 49 got a walkover as their rivals Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 20 who failed to turn up.

Tomorrow’s fixtures: St Stephen’s School-45 vs St Kabir School-26 (9.30 a.m.); Chandigarh Football Academy-42 vs Ryans International-49 (10.30 a.m.) and Shivalik Public School-41 vs Vivek High School-38 (11.30 a.m).

Rana fashions Bedi Club victory

A superb knock of 82 off 54 balls ( 4X10, 6X4) by Dinesh Rana enabled the Bedi Cricket Club beat the Godrej Cricket Club by 6 runs in the inaugural LG Cup League Cricket Tournament held at Satluj Public School, Sector 4, here, today.

Brief scores: Bedi Cricket Club 217 for 7 in 25 overs. Dinesh Rana 82, Harpinder Bedi 40, Gurmeet 30, Ajay Paswrucha 25; ( Kulwinder Romio 3 for 25, Vinod Binta 2 for 40).

Godrej Cricket Club: 211 for 5 in 25 overs. Gautam Sharma 97, Jai Kapil 40, Umesh Kaira 32 and Vineet chawla 23; ( Harpinder Bedi 3 for 25).

In another match, Anron cycles beat Aneet and Associates by 29 runs.

Brief scores: Anron Cycles Ltd 227 for 7 in 25 overs. ( Yuvraj Singh 81, Tejwant 53, Amit Sharma 32; Vikas Kansal 2 for 35, Sumeet Verma 2 for 40, Rajbeer Singh 2 for 45).

Aneet and Associates were all out at 198 (Subodh Bisht 49, Sumeet Verma 46, Madan Joshi 35, Vikas Kansal 30; ( Yuvraj 3 for 18, Amit Sharma 4 for 28, Harma 1 for 5, Gaurav 1 for 20).

BBMB surge ahead in badminton tourney

Chandigarh, November 22
Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) beat Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVNL) in the finals of team event by 3-1 during the second day of 11 th Inter-Central Power Sector Units Badminton Tournament held at Badminton Hall, Sector 42, here today.

In the semifinals, BBMB thrashed NHPC 3-0 and SJVNL beat NEEPCO 3-0.

The results: Finals ( team event): BBMB bt SJVNL Gurpreet lost to rakesh Bansal 9-15, 9-15. Vipin bt Surinder Pal 15-6, 15-1 and Arun and Vipin bt Rakesh and Surinder 15-3, 15-4 Arun bt Kashmir Chand 15-1, 15-4.
