Khalsa College girls excel in academics

Students of the Khalsa College for Women have bagged the fourth and seventh positions in M.Com I examination conducted by Panjab University in April 2005. Mini Jand and Kanwalpreet Kaur scored 82.52 per cent and 81.65 per cent marks, respectively. Both of them also secured the third and fifth positions in the district, respectively.

The college has continued with its tradition of securing 100 per cent result with all students obtaining Ist division. Twenty six students have got secured more than 75 per cent marks. Among them, 10 students have got more than 80 per cent marks. The college Principal, Dr (Ms) Varinder Kaur Thind, congratulated the staff and students for the achievement and wished them luck for the future.

NSS camp concludes

A 10-day NSS camp at Kamla Lohtia S.D. College concluded here on Tuesday. A cultural function was organised by volunteers to mark the closing ceremony of the camp. President of the college managing committee Naveen Mittal was the chief guest and Mr V.S. Chopra was the guest of honour. The volunteers distributed sewing machines among poor and needy women. Programme officers, Prof Dr Yograj Angrish and Prof Deepak Dhingra presented the summary of all activities undertaken by the volunteers during the camp.

Major activities undertaken by the volunteers included the cleanliness of college campus and adjoining areas, levelling of college play ground, first-aid training camp, vanamahotsava and interaction with residents of Bal Bhawan and Old Citizen Home maintained by the Red Cross Society.

Hiking and trekking camp

A three-day hiking and trekking camp was organised by the Youth Club of the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan campus, to Kasauli and Shimla. As many as 44 students attended the camp. They trekked up to monkey point in Kasauli, Tara Devi and Jakhu Temple in Shimla. College teachers — Ms Rajinder Saggu, Ms Seema Dua and Ms Sarabjit — accompanied the students.

Cooking classes for tiny tots Children of Cherryfield School here were excited and enthusiastic about a cooking class held at the school on Tuesday. Wearing aprons and chef's caps, the tiny tots learnt how to make sandwiches, jam and butter cones, fruit and vegetable salads.

Teachers told the students about various vegetables that could be eaten raw or cooked. The children were also taught about table etiquettes and manners like the use of paper napkins, eating with forks, knives and spoons etc. The Principal, Ms Santosh Sharma, stressed on the importance of healthy eating.
