10-day NSS camp ends at girls’ college

Ludhiana, October 3
A 10-day NSS camp concluded at Ramgarhia Girls’ College here today.

On the concluding day of the camp, a cultural programme was organised which was presided over by Mr Jagtar Singh, general secretary of the Ramgarhia Educational Council.

The teacher in charge of the NSS unit of the camp listed out major activities conducted during the camp.

An attempt was made to create awareness about good health among the volunteers as the motto of the camp was “Youth for health”.

The volunteers also undertook cleanliness drives and educational campaigns in nearby slums. Apart from this, they were imparted training in mehandi application, flower making, hair styling etc. They also attended a medical check-up camp.

Principal Harmit Kaur appreciated the zeal and efforts of the volunteers.

Prizes for SDP students

A tehsil-level science exhibition was organised at Dashmesh Senior Secondary School here on Sunday.

Students from around 65 schools participated is different events. SDP Senior Secondary School won five prizes in different categories.

These students were guided by Mr Balraj Kumar Bhasin, president, Mr R.C. Kalia, Principal, Mr Ravinder Tandon, Mr Anito Singh, Mr Vikas Dhawan, Mr Ajay Sharma (all teachers).

MCom I result

Students of the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, have brought laurels to the institution by showing excellent results in MCom I (second semester) examination conducted by Panjab University Chandigarh, in April.

Jasjit Kaur bagged the sixth position in the district by scoring 81.56 per cent marks and stood first in the college. Harpreet Kaur and Amandeep Kaur scored 81.13 per cent and 79.7 per cent and stood second and third, respectively, in the college. Twentyeight out of 30 students have scored above 70 per cent marks.

The management and the Principal, Mr Manju Chawla, congratulated the students and the faculty.

Sahitya Sirjan contest

Students of Baba Isher Singh Senior Secondary Public School showed excellence in Hindi, Punjabi Kavita Gayan and Sahitya Sirjan competition organised by the Bhasha Vibhag, Punjabi Bhavan, Ludhiana.

Gagandeep Singh Matharoo stood first in the Punjabi essay-writing competition and Harloveleen Kaur stood first in the Hindi essay-writing competition.

Gurleen Kaur stood third in the Hindi poem-recitation competition. Parampreet Kaur and Dupinder Kaur won consolation prizes in the Punjabi poem-recitation competition.

The school Principal, Ms Aneeta Kundra, congratulated the winners.

Grandparents’ Day

Grandparents’ Day was celebrated at Kundan Vidya Mandir, Civil Lines. The programme organised on the occasion comprised songs, skits, dance items and speeches. The school Principal and two of the grandparents expressed their views on the occasion.

Along with this, an activity of making paper bags was also conducted in each class in order to encourage the children to shun polythene bags.

Farm trip

Students of Lovely Lotus went on a field trip to visit a farm in Jugiana.

The children had a wonderful time playing with ducks and were happy to see cows and buffaloes being bathed.

It was a novel experience for them to eat missi roti, pickle and onion and drink lassi. On the way back, they saw how factories’ chimneys spew smoke and caused of pollution.

Gandhi Jayanti

Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at Dr Ranjit International School Prerna Kender, Jassian Road.

The chief guests were councillors Hem Raj Aggarwal and Amarjit Kaur. The students presented a cultural programme and read poems on Mahatma Gandhi.

Principal Kuldip Singh also summed up the policies of non-violence propagated by Mahatma Gandhi. The chief guests gifted away sewing machines to needy girls so that they can stitch clothes and earn money. The students who had completed diploma in computers were also given certificates.

Best teacher award for Walia

Ludhiana, October 3
Ms Kanwal Walia, author of nine children books and a well-known radio and television artist, was awarded the best teacher award by the Lions Club Ludhiana Samrat at Le-Baron Hotel here yesterday.

A government teacher by profession, Ms Walia has also worked in eight Punjabi films. President of the club Sunil Lakhotra said we felt proud to have honoured a dedicated teacher like Ms Walia.

Mr Dewan Jagdish Chander, former MLA, Ms Amrit Varsha Rampal, Councillor, Dr Baljit Singh, secretary, Dr Walia, Dr J.S. Kohli, Mr Ravinder Sehgal and Mr Ankur Sood were also present on the occasion.

Freshers party

Ludhiana, October 3
A freshers party was organised at Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, here, today for the new entrants to the under-graduate courses. Sakshi Jalali of BCA was declared Ms Fresher while Gurpreet Singh of BBA won the title of Mr Fresher. — OC
