THE Central Board of Secondary Education has decided to provide 15 minutes of cool off time for students to read the question papers. My nephew Simar was not duly satisfied by CBSE’s gesture. I asked him what more did he want? He said, "They should give extra 15 minutes to consult books before we get down to answering the questions". I reminded him that CBSE had not as yet allowed books inside the exam hall. Simar was getting more and more confused. He wondered how the children could remain composed after going through the questions. I suggested that they could try Baba Ramdev’s yogic exercises or let out shouts of forced laughter as they do in Laughter clubs. Simar said, "Mamu, no one laughs on seeing the questions". I asked him how he as a student, visualised the correct way to utilise these extra 15 minutes to cool off the tension. Simar after quick brain-storming came out with a new set of suggestions. CBSE must give the students three options before attempting the questions: Phone a friend — A student should be allowed to consult his friend on the phone to solve the difficult questions. Audience poll — Regarding one difficult question, the student should be allowed to seek an opinion poll among other students appearing in the exams. |
