Is Tulsi finally wilting?

She’s been widowed and remarried. Her first husband returned from the dead. She’s lost her memory and found it again and she’s killed her son — so getting over lung cancer should be a breeze for the most loved bahu on television.

When Tulsi was recently diagnosed with the disease in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, fans were shell-shocked and traumatised wondering if this was the end of an era and whether Tulsi would ultimately die and bring the
curtains on the longest-running soap in the history of Indian television.

Even as the Virani family members howled their hearts out on the show, the real life Smriti Irani was quick to remind viewers that she would recover and save the number one family saga. "I won’t leave the show as long as I am wanted on it," she says. And understandably her fans have heaved a collective sigh of relief.

With Kyunki`85 now becoming a five-day a week show, the dreaded illness is simply yet another ploy to gain viewer sympathy and push up the ratings of the show. So get set to shed more tears and sob and snivel a bit more with Kyunki....

Time for nautanki

Menon in Nautanki Top 9: Comic guide to hammingHe has a manic obsession with costumes that he dons when he’s interviewing celebrities. His antics are getting more laughs than Shekhar Suman’s stand up shows and his wacky brand of comedy is rocking on the small screen.

Finally Suresh Menon has arrived. Having played second fiddle to Sajid Khan for years, Menon has now taken the lead with the The Great Indian Comedy Show on Star One.

He will now host Nautanki Top 9, a new rip-roaring countdown show on ETC channel every Friday at 8 p.m.`A0

The show is not only about songs but also about nautanki. Menon will do spoofs on old films like Sita aur Gita and Padosan.

Says Menon, "If I can make even 20 per cent of my viewers laugh, I have done my job." One sure hopes that he meets his target and more — after all those sob stories on the tube one could do with a bit of laughter.

Delnaz steals dil

There’s been nothing spectacular about her entry. Her pictures have not been splashed in magazines, no high profile interviews. Yet, Delnaz Paul has steadily scaled the charts on TV, in films and in plays. As Gulshan Batliwala in Batliwalla House No. 43, Delnaz is the only member of the dysfunctional family who provides some genuine laughs. "Comedy is my forte and I want to make the best of it."

Which she is, and not just on TV but now also in films. Her big screen career has been buzzing ever since she played the perky "Sweetu" in Kal Ho Na Ho. Now she’s doing a cameo in Satish Kaushik’s Milenge Milenge.

But more than that Delnaz is in the news for the much hyped Rishi Kapoor-Dimple Kapadia starrer Pyaar Mein Twist where she plays Dimple’s pampered daughter.

"I am so excited doing a film with the two legends. I am sure the film will be a huge hit." Hit or not but one thing’s for sure, this is quite a career mein twist for Delnaz.
