Vying for the crown Veggies Go on a
Beauty Parade Just this once, children would actually be delighted to hear about vegetables! Chetna weaves a charming story around vain vegetables competing for the annual veggies’ beauty pageant. Among the veggies in the kitchen garden, Hariyali, are Liddy, the ladyfinger, Leafy, the cabbage, Bingy, the big brinjal, Teekhi, the green chilli, and the self-assured Roly-poly Podgy, the potato whose weight is her last concern. Each veggie nurtures the desire to be the beauty queen even as they envy one another’s curves and features. The ruddy cheeks of Carrie the carrot and the long slim legs of the lotus stem cause much heart-burning. The crown, however, goes to a "new" vegetable that all the others had never seen! The veggies are introduced
in a manner that is entertaining and would draw a child’s curiosity
and interest. The book is colourful and richly illustrated. For once,
the little ones will not screw up their faces in disgust at the mention
of the green veggies! |
