Event buzz AIMS 2005, the two-day Annual IT Management Seminar of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K) concluded at the institute’s campus in Kozhikode (Calicut), Kerala, on Sunday last. The event was organised by Abakus, the systems interest group at IIMK. The event featured a wide array of top IT profesionals from across the industry to discuss the theme "IT India: Crossing the Chasm". The theme reflected the highly dynamic nature of the IT industry today with its constant paradigm shifts, according to a Press release. The event was inaugurated by Dr Krishna Kumar, Director, IIM Kozhikode. He stressed that seminars like these were essential to familiarise the students with the latest developments in the dynamic industries. The seminar was kick-started with a thought-provoking session by Ajit Balakrishnan, the founder and CEO of rediff.com, on "Entrepreneurship in e-business: Current Challenges and Future Perspectives". He drew a parallel between the industrial revolution and the Internet one, and stated that since it took nearly a century for the former to occur, it was fallacious to expect the latter to happen overnight. The others who addressed the session were Jessie Paul, Chief Marketing Officer, Wipro Technologies, Sriniketh Raman Chakravarthi, Senior Manager, Corporate Development, Cognizant, K. Ganesh, non-Executive chairman of Marketics. Col. K.P.M. Das, VP, Mobile Computing Products Group, Encore Technologies, Anjani Mandal, Executive VP, Financial Services Division, Headstrong India, Aruna Jayanthi, VP & Head of Outsourcing, Capgemini, Sunil Chitale, Senior VP & Head, Manufacturing SBU, Patni, and Viswanathan Krishnamurthi, CIO, Yahoo! Bangalore also addressed the participants. The paper writing competition sponsored by Satyam on the occasion was a big success. The first prize was bagged by Kiran R of IIM Kozhikode and the second by Rishi Vijay and Lijo Isac from Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi. IT placements The first batch of Information Technology engineers, who passed out from the Sri Sukhmani Institute of Engineering and Technology, Dera Bassi, in July 2005, have secured placements in several prestigious companies. These include Sterling, Infosys Technologies, Dell, Coventine Corporation, IDS Infotech, Drish Infotech, Wipro Spectramind, Reliance Infocom, FCS Software, Radico Khaitan and GCS Computer Technolgoes etc, besides the Indian Army, the Principal, Dr I.P. Singh, stated in a Press release. According to the Training and Placement Officer of the college, N.S. Julka, the students who did exceptionally well during their 6-month industrial project training have been awarded stipends by companies like Dell, Coventine Corporation, IDS Infotech, Glide and Radico Khaitan. These students include: Anshula, Puneet Goel, Shilpa, Romita, Bhavish Kapoor, Deepshikha, Deepti, Mohit Sachdeva, Shivani Arora, Daltaj Singh, Aditi Kumar and Saurabh Arora.
