Paramedical sciences is one of those upcoming careers that promises high salaries and a bright future not only in India but also overseas. Here, Dr V.P. Singh, Director of the Delhi Institute of Paramedical Sciences, shares his views on the career prospects in paramedical sciences. Excerpts from an interview:

What are the future prospects in paramedical sciences?

This is one of the upcoming fields in India. Although there are a number of paramedical professionals in India but the demand is rising day by day.

These include dental technicians, physiotherapists, X-rays specialists, MRI specialists, nurses and many more. Without the help of these professionals even doctors can not diagnose a disease properly.

Are paramedical courses gaining popularity?

Since there are only a limited number of seats in the MBBS courses, many youngsters have started opting for paramedical courses. Besides, this is a very good option for girls.

What are the job opportunities overseas for paramedical professionals?

The European countries and USA need more and more paramedical professionals from India as they are considered on a par with the best in the world. The demand for Indian nurses and physiotherapists is so much that the professionals can get very lucrative jobs in countries like the USA, England, Switzerland, Germany and others.

What advice would you give to youngsters wanting to choose this field?

I would say that the students who do not get the admission to a MBBS course, should not get disheartened. For, paramedical science is also a field where you can get job satisfaction and also earn good money.

Is the government promoting this profession?

Unfortunately, the government is not showing much interest in paramedical courses. The government has a lot of funds for MBBS courses but the paramedical courses are mostly being run by private institutes. There should be more institutes offering good paramedical courses, as this would give more and more employment to the youths in the near future.
