A BBC report says that British Prime Minister Tony Blair has spent £1800 of the taxpayer’s money on cosmetics and make-up artists since he came to office. We should appreciate Blair for putting up a brave made-up face during the Iraq war and other crises. Politicians in India should also take a cue from Blair and use good makeup material and artists for their public appearances. For example, our Home Minister can have a face made up which is full of concern after he learns of a series of blasts, rape or murder. Some politicians like Arun Jaitley and Y. S. R. Reddy who have a perpetually smiling face will need extra make-up to look gloomy while reacting to a national crisis. If professional makeup technicians from Bollywood are engaged, the politician can be given a look that matches their portfolio. The IT Minister can be seen wearing a scholarly look. The smiling curves on the face of the Finance Minister will be able to match the economic graphs of the country. The minister in charge of sports can be made to look sporty with a gelled look, while the Petroleum Minister can appear with a lot of oil on his face and hair. One such makeup artist once asked the Finance Minister if he should give him a cheerful look. The Finance Minister snapped back, "Make dark circles under my eyes. I am going to present a gloomy budget". |
