Breast-feed ‘must’ till six months

Dera Bassi, August 5
Mr Nachhattar Singh, Joint Director, Social Security and Woman and Child Welfare, Punjab, today advised women to breast-feed children till six months of age.

Mr Singh was addressing a gathering of over 200 women at the launch of a block-level campaign organised in Devi Nagar village to observe the International Breast Feeding Week here today.

He appealed to the gathering not to feed their children with bottles till they attained the age of two. Mr Amrik Jain, CDPO, Dera Bassi, also highlighted the pros and cons of breastfeeding at the camp.

Besides residents of the areas, Mr Mohan Bindal, Deputy Secretary, Red Cross Society, Punjab, Mr Bhupinder Singh Saini, chairman of the Rotary Club (Town), Dera Bassi, Mr Gurnam Singh, village sarpanch, Ms Hardev Kaur, panch and Ms Salita Saini, a social worker, were also present.

113 donate blood at camp

Chandigarh, August 5
As many as 113 persons, including four Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, donated blood today at a camp organised by the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association.

The camp was organised as part of celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of the High Court.

Prominent among those who donated blood were Mr Justice Jasbir Singh, Mr Justice S.S. Saron, Mr Justice SK Mittal, Mr Justice Virender Singh, Bar Association President Atul Lakhanpal, and Secretary Lokesh Sinhal.

Chief Justice Justice D.K. Jain inaugurated the camp.

St Stephen’s to take on St John’s in soccer final

Chandigarh, August 5
St Stephen’s School, Sector 45 will take on St John’s High School, Sector 26 in the tomorrow’s final of the U-14 (boys) UT Inter-School Soccer tournament for Pre-Subroto cup being played here tomorrow.

In a controversial semi final played between DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, and St. John’s High School, Sector 26, at the grounds of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, the later was barred from playing its best players as per the decision of the organising committee.

St John’s beat DAV School by a solitary goal. A few days ago, DAV School outclassed St John’s and while the match was still in progress, later conceded the match.

Chandigarh outclass J&K in dodgeball

Chandigarh, August 5
Chandigarh outclassed Jammu and Kashmir in a one-sided affair 2-0 (10-5, 8-4) in the First Senior National Dodgeball championship that commenced at Sports Complex, Sector 7, here today.

The meet was inaugurated by Mr A.Venu Prasad, president of the Dodgeball Federation of India.

Three matches were held. Following are the results.

MP bt Karnataka 2-0 ( 10-5, 8-4); Chandigarh bt J & K 2-0 ( 31-4, 26-3); Himachal Pradesh bt Pondicherry 2-0 (12- 5, 15-1).

Table tennis meet

Chandigarh, August 5
More than 125 players, drawn from various institutions of the district, will be seen in action in the two-day Panchkula District Table Tennis championship beginning tomorrow at the Indoor hall of the Manav Mangal School, Sector 11, Panchkula.

According to Dr VP Paul, president of the Panchkula District Table Tennis Association, the events is to be organised in categories of under10, under12, under14, under 17, all singles, for girls and boys and men and women.
