People should not remember what politicians say during their election speeches. Remembering election promises can be injurious to the health of both the neta and janta. Navjot Singh Sidhu had promised to the Amritsar electorate that if voted to power, he would never visit his hometown Patiala. At that time I thought that he must have borrowed heavily from his friends in Patiala or he must be looking for a legitimate excuse to be away from his wife. But whatever the reason — he has kept his promise. As far as politics is concerned Sidhu has tarnished the image of those politicians who never mean what they say. Sidhu decided not to attend the antim ardas of his father-in-law to be held in Patiala. Sidhu should learn the art of forgetting promises as quickly as possible or he could be in lot of trouble. Sidhu has already done great damage to the dress code of the politicians. By appearing in colourful shirts and matching turban and tie he looks more of a TV star than a BJP karyakarta. Navjot is a good commentator. Some people say that his grip over the language is so good that he can talk for hours without saying anything. That is the only quality that makes him a true-bred politician. But still the BJP cannot take the risk of making Navjot Singh Sidhu the party spokesman because he can deliver a bouncer anytime. |
