PHSC holds review meeting via video conference

Mohali, July 12
The Punjab Health Systems Corporation (PHSC) here today held a review meeting with the Deputy Medical Commissioners and Civil Surgeons of all 17 districts in the state. The meeting was conducted via video conferencing throughts the link established between main Secretariat, Punjab, Chandigarh and the various Deputy Commissioner offices across the state.

The National Informatics Centre (NIC) facilitated the equipment and arrangements for the video conferencing at the Punjab Secretariat and the DC offices of respective districts. The conferencing was highly successful as a smooth link was established between the headquarters and the DC offices without any hitch or technical snag.

Col C.D. Singh Kamboj, Chairman, PHSC, chaired the meeting. Mr Tilak R. Sarangal, Managing Director, PHSC, Dr R.S. Saggu, Director, PHSC, Dr D.S. Virk, Director, Health Services (Family Welfare), and other senior officers of the health department and Corporation attended the meeting. These officers sitting in the video-conference room of the Main Civil Secretariat, Punjab, in Chandigarh addressed the civil surgeons at the districts.

Colonel Kamboj, reviewed the performance indicators district wise and directed the Civil Surgeons to improve the functioning of the hospitals. He appreciated the increase in the percentage of OPD patients availing the facilities of Rajiv Gandhi Mobile Diagnostic Hospital vans. He said the government was committed to provide good healthcare to the people of the state. He also congratulated the NIC for establishing a successful Video-conferencing link.

Mr T.R. Sarangal asked the civil surgeons of Amritsar and Ferozepore districts to effectively supervise the arrangements for the boat tragedy victims. He further directed them to expedite the post-mortem of the deceased immediately. He also reviewed arrangements with regard to flood prone areas and monitored the stationing arrangements made to contain the spread of water-borne diseases, gastro-enteritis and diarrhoea in the state.

Dr R.S. Saggu said efforts should be made to increase institutional deliveries in the government hospitals. He also discussed other issues relating to equipment in hospitals, morbidity, mortality, blood banks, waste management, disease surveillance etc.

125 donate blood at FCI camp

A blood donation camp at the office of the Food  Corporation of India, Sector 4, Panchkula, on Tuesday.

Panchkula, July 12
The Food Corporation of India (FCI), Regional Office, Haryana, organised a blood donation camp on its premises, here today. As many as 125 employees donated blood at this first-ever camp organised by the FCI office in the north zone. The camp was inaugurated by Mr T.C. Gupta, Senior Regional Manager, FCI, Haryana Region.

The blood donation camp was organised in association with Rotary and Blood Bank Society resource centre, Sector 37, and NGO. Dr Col R.S. Shah, Director of the organisation, Ms Niti Sarin, Joint Secretary, and Ms Meena Kashyap of the Blood Bank Society, coordinated the camp.

Officers and officials of the Regional Office Haryana and Punjab regions, officers and officials from all district offices as well as field offices of the FCI, Haryana region, participated in the camp. As many as 36 volunteers donated blood for the first time at the camp.

Trials start for sports wing seats

Chandigarh, July 12
Trials to allot sports wing seats (schools) in various disciplines by Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration, started at different schools here today. The department has deputed its coaches to allocate 361 wing seats to deserving players of various schools.

The trials will conclude on July 14 and sports seats were being allotted to different schools in athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football, gymnastics, volleyball and wrestling.

The sports department will provide daily refreshment worth Rs 35 for non-hostlers and Rs 50 for hostlers.

The selection trials for 12 seats in gymnastic for Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, were held under the supervision of coach of Sports Authority of India, Mr Rajinder, at DAV College, Sector 10. Around 25 players appeared in trials out of which Vikas Kumar, Hargun, Gobind Bahadur, Dhan Bahadur, Arun Bahadur, Pankaj Pandey, Chanda, Krishna, Rohit, Davinder, Sarita and Swati made it to the wing seats.

In the basketball discipline, seats have been allotted to Rimpy, Suman, Mira, Shikha, Ranjit, Lata, Abhilasha, Neha, Rima, Shruti, Supriya and Nidhi. The trials were conducted at Dev Samaj Girls Senior Secondary School in which 23 sportspersons participated.

In the athletics discipline, 18 seats were allotted to Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37. Only 14 sportspersons took part and were selected. The department’s coaches Sarabjit Singh and Iqbal Singh supervised the trials. Those selected are: Jasbir Kaur, Meenu Verma, Ranjit, Jyoti Sharma, Jyoti Singh, Ramandeep Kaur, Sukhdeep Kaur, Harpreet Kaur, Kusum, Ruchi Sharma, Lakshmi, Ramanpreet Kaur, Anju Thakur and Neha. Four seats are still lying vacant which will be filled after new admissions, stated T. S. Badwaal, DPE of the school.

Eight seats were allotted in boxing and wrestling each in the trials held at Sharda Sarv Hitkari Senior Secondary School, Sector 40. As many as 40 and 44 players participated in boxing and wrestling trials, respectively. The list of finalists will be declared in July.

Selection trials for college sports wings will be conducted on July 18 at 4 pm.

Yoga camp draws good response

People do asanas at the ongoing yoga camp at Sood Bhavan, Sector 44, Chandigarh, on Tuesday The five-day yoga camp being organised at the Sood Bhawan, Sector 44, here has attracted people from all sections of the society. Even aged persons and ladies are showing great interest in learning various asanas. The camp, which began on July 10, is being held under the aegis of Sai Sewa Trust, Rishikesh, and would end on July 14. The people are also being treated for various ailments through asanas.

Cycling trials today

Chandigarh, July 12
The selection trials for Chandigarh Mountain Bike Cycling team will be conducted tomorrow at 5 pm near forest trail behind the PGI waterworks. The team will take part in the National Mountain Bike Cycling Championship, under sub junior, junior and senior category, to be held at Hyderabad from July 21 to 25. — TNS
