Manna Dey returns

FANS of singing legend Manna Dey will now rejoice. The doyen with the mellifluous voice has decided to return to singing after a hiatus of nearly 20 years. Dey has recently recorded a song for an upcoming Hindi film, Umar, directed by Karan Razdan.

He spoke to the press from Bangalore. Dey says that he never really left singing per se. "I have been doing stage shows and singing songs in various languages. It was just that I ceased to do any playback singing since the release of Prahaar, which was way back in 1991!" says Dey. He adds that it was the severe dearth of songs to suit his age which prevented him from lending his voice to film tracks.

As regards Umar he says, "The subject of the film was close to my heart. It deals with the trials and tribulations of three senior citizens who are battling life’s challenges. I could identify with the three men in the film". —MF
