Promoting a proactive work culture enables an employer to create a highly productive team. Pramod Sadarjoshi, Director and Head HR, CSC India, outlines the HR policies that distinguish and define his company. What are the work values that you look for in new recruits?
What kind of work culture does your company promote? "We believe in a flexible approach and promote a proactive and a listening culture. We benchmark ourselves annually to ensure that we are amongst the top companies to work for in the country. Our primary focus is to take good care of our employees and create a high-performance team. We are a process-oriented company, including in things like compensation policy, training policy, etc. We also ensure that our employees have a healthy balance between professional and personal life. Any innovative HR practices being followed at CSC? "Encouragement for child adoption: To encourage adoption of child by employees of CSC, the company provides benefits of maternity and paternity leave to employees as in the case of the birth of a child and also extends the policy of giving a gift to the new born in case of legal adoption as well. Higher education policy: Any employee of the company can acquire higher education while working for the company or by taking a sabbatical. In case the person opts for a sabbatical, the duration of the sabbatical shall equal the duration of the course. Also the person is ensured a job back on completion of the course. Moreover, on joining back, the time spent on gaining higher education shall be counted as experience gained and therefore the seniority shall be determined accordingly. No retirement age: There is no retirement age for employees in CSC. All the employees can continue to work for the company till such time they feel appropriate. CSC is an equal-opportunity organisation. 90 hours of discretionary training: Every employee can take up training other than his / her domain, towards which the organisation and the employee contribute 45 working hours each. Are the corporates encouraged to play a social/community role too? How? "CSC has a strong focus on community and social responsibility. We have a committee, called Social Services Committee (SSC) that is responsible for various social services activities, including: Organising blood donation camps participating in pulse polio drives Organising vaccination programmes and health check-up camps "CSC has also adopted an old age home in Noida and four villages in Indore. CSC also participated extensive in the recent tsunami relief programme. "Social services sabbatical: The company provides sabbatical to employees up to a period of 6 months for undertaking social service work. The employee is paid 50 per cent of his/her salary during this time and he/she is also entitled to all the benefits of an employee of CSC. The employee’s work at the social service organisation is appraised as a part of the annual appraisal and his/her increment is decided accordingly. Any major hiring plans for the near future?
