Create awareness, AIDS Control Society told
Chandigarh, June 6 This was informed by the Secretary Health-cum-Chairman, State AIDS Control Society, Mr Krishna Mohan, at a meeting which was attended by Director, Health Services, Mr C.P. Bansal, and the Project Director, State AIDS Control Society, Mr N.M. Sharma. It was further informed that to know the strength of the high-risk behaviour population an intervention programme would be chalked out to prevent the spread of HIV infection in the population that practice high-risk behaviours. The society has completed a mapping of these high-risk groups as well as high risk sites in collaboration with the Indian Public Health Association, PGI. The Home Secretary said that the information collected through the surveillance would help in the prevention of the dreaded disease, adding that it was imperative to disseminate the same so that it percolates down to the general public who could adopt preventive measures. He directed the society to focus its attention more on creating awareness to prevent the further spread of this disease. Mr Krishna Mohan also urged the people to utilise the services provided by the State AIDS Control Society, which include Voluntary Counselling and Testing Facilities, Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission Programme, Drugs for Anti-Retroviral Therapy and Community Care Centres. He stressed that the public should avail of counselling and testing facilities for high-risk behaviour or in the case of doubt at P.G.I, General Hospital, Sector-16 and Government Medical College, Sector-32, Chandigarh. He said that all the ante-natal mothers must get themselves tested before delivery for HIV for the safety of child and if found positive must take drugs and also provide drugs to the newborn. In addition, an effort to provide some relief to the poor patients, anti-retro viral therapy is also being provided to AIDS patients free of cost in PGI, Chandigarh. Now community care centre at Khuda Alisher is also functional and HIV/AIDS patients may avail the facility of short stay in it. |

Mohali, June 6 Amritsar won the toss and elected to bat first. Sumit (95), Rahul (42) and Karan (41) were the main scorers for Amritsar. Amrinder and Taruwar claimed three wickets each for Amritsar while Vikramjeet took two for 39. In reply Jalandhar was batting on 61 for 2 in 18.1 overs at close of the play. Satpal made 29 runs and Ishan Dogra put on 26 for Jalandhar. Charanjit and Baljinder took one wicket each. |
