Monica is PU topper in BCom I

Monica Arora of Government College for Women has topped in B.Com 1 year Examination in the Panjab University.
The results of the examination came in last evening.

Talking to the Ludhiana Tribune, she said, “I am of course overjoyed as I have topped the university. I have performed a hat-trick I stood first in the +1 and 2 examinations and now I have topped in the university by securing 467 marks out of 550 marks in B.Com.

I would attribute my success to God, my teachers and parents for inspiring me. I plan to do MBA after B. Com for I am interested in business,” she said.

Nidhi Chugh of GCW stood second in the district with 453 marks. Durga Sharma stood first in Ramgarhia Girls College by securing 413 marks. Priyanka Garg was second in the college with 403 marks while Gurjeet stood third with 389 marks.

Ratika of Khalsa College for Women obtained 439 and stood first. Sunaina stood second in the college with 418 marks whereas Vanita claimed the third position with 415 marks.

Neha Gupta of Guru Nanak Girls College stood first by securing 73.6 per cent and Arzoo secured second position by securing 73.9 per cent. Neha was third with 72.9 per cent.

Preeti of Khalsa College for Women secured 80.7 per cent marks and Ishneet with 76 per cent and Paramjeet with 75.2 per cent stood second and third, respectively.

Sonal secured 409 marks and stood first in Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Gujjarkhan Campus, while Sahil attained 408 marks and stood second while Amandeep was a close third with 404 marks.

Simmi Goyal was first in the SDP College with 396 marks whereas Talvinder Kaur stood second and third was Charanjot Kaur.

Shilpa secured 400 and stood at first position whereas Shipra stood second and Akshit came in third.

Preeti tops college in BCom I

Ludhiana, May 29
Preeti Gupta of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, stood first in B Com I securing 80.72 per cent marks.
Ishneet Kaur stood second securing 76 per cent marks and Paramjit Kaur stood third securing 75.27 per cent marks. As many as 72 students have secured first division, according to the college press release.

Education should be need based: Dawar

“Education should be according to the needs of the 21st century and prepare the children according to modern times so that they can find suitable jobs,” said Mr Surinder Dawar, Parliamentary Secretary. He was addressing students of Jain Public School at the silver jubilee function held last evening at DD Jain College.

Mr Dawar said according to the changing needs of people, changes have come accordingly in the field of education. We have to accept changes in order to equip our students to compete with other students of the world.

Mr Dawar appreciated the efforts of the organisers, staff and students of the school. He gave away prizes to toppers of the school.

Mr Hira Lal stated that the school had started with seven students 25 years ago and presently 1,700 students study in the school with 80 staff members to take care of them.

The Principal, Mr S.K. Kalra, read the annual report of the school. The students presented a cultural programme.

Present on the occasion were chairman of the Knitwear Club, Mr Suraj Bhan Jain, president, School Managing Committee, Narinder Kumar Jain, Mr Ajit Kumar Jain, Mr Desh Bandhu Gupta, Mr Nand Kkumar Jain, Mr Shanti Sarup and Mr Amrit Lal Jain.

The following were elected office-bearers: president — Dr Satwinder Dhillon, Principal, Dev Samaj College of Education, Chandigarh; senior vice-president — Mr Amarjit Singh Grewal, Principal, GTB College, Dhakha; general secretary — Mr Janmeet Singh, Principal, DAV College, Hoshiarpur; vice-president — Dr S.K. Uppal, Principal, D.M. College, Moga; secretary — Mr Kuldeep Singh, Principal, Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Chandigarh; treasurer — Ms Govinder Kaur, Principal, College of Education, Loppon; and propaganda secretary — Dr Satish Sharma, Principal, D.A.V. College, Jagraon.

MC Club triumphs

Ludhiana, May 29
Anil Singla’s knock of 62 runs helped Municipal Corporation Club to register a five-wicket victory over Unique Club in a cricket match, played at the Satish Chander Dhawan Government College ground here today.

Batting first, Unique Club made 137 runs in 26.1 overs. The main scorers were Ritesh and RP Singh who contributed 25 and 22 runs respectively. For Municipal Corporation Club, Gaurav Marwaha was the most successful bowler who chipped in with four wickets for 20 runs while Rajesh Sharma took 3 for 21 runs. Deepak Kapoor grabbed two wickets conceding 25 runs.

Chasing a modest target of 138 runs for win, Municipal Corporation Club faced no resistance from Unique Club bowlers as they surpassed the total after losing five wickets in 22.2 overs. The main architects of MC Club’s win were Anil Singla and Rajiv who scored 62 and 27 runs, respectively. Sunny and Ashu of Unique Club claimed two wickets each.
